Job summary

M&T Bank is seeking a Senior Product Owner to own the end-to-end product vision for money movement APIs in Buffalo, NY. You will prioritize backlogs, manage API lifecycle, and ensure developer experience and service reliability meet business goals.

Engage with customers, apply design thinking, and collaborate with UX and other Product Owners to align journeys and backlogs. Compliance and risk controls are integral to the role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and ≥6 years of business/analytical/technical/product experience (or 10 years combined education/work with no degree).
• Experience prioritizing competing priorities in a fast-changing landscape.
• Ability to seek multiple opinions, yet make independent decisions and influence outcomes.
• Understanding of Design Thinking principles.
• Knowledge of product design and development best practices.
• Knowledge of Agile and Lean principles and practices.
• Experience partnering with UX teams on product design.
• Experience developing digital capabilities.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Deep understanding of payments (Wire, ACH, Instant Payments, Zelle, Bill Pay).
• Expertise in Product Management, Agile delivery, or Payments Operations.
• Ability to influence without authority and navigate regulatory considerations.

Responsibilities

• Own the end-to-end product vision, strategy, roadmap, adoption, and operational performance for money movement APIs.
• Prioritize backlogs and manage API lifecycle, developer experience, service reliability, risk and control requirements, and measurable outcomes.
• Represent the customer voice, convey user-story details, and make autonomous product decisions.
• Write user stories, groom backlogs, and specify acceptance criteria to support ATDD.
• Create information radiators and communication tools to show product progress.
• Participate in all team activities and agile ceremonies.
• Influence business partners across the organization and advocate for customer benefit.
• Engage with customers and use design thinking and analytics to inform product design.
• Collaborate across teams and with other Product Owners to align customer journeys and dependent backlogs.
• Act on behalf of the Senior Product Owner as required.
• Adhere to risk, regulatory, and internal control standards; elevate risk issues and implement findings.
• Promote an environment that supports belonging and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
• Complete other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 6 years’ business, analytical, technical and/or product experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 10 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 6 years’ business, analytical, technical and/or product experience
• Prior experience prioritizing competing priorities and quickly changing landscape
• Prior experience actively seeking out multiple opinions, yet making independent decisions and influencing positive outcomes
• Understanding of Design Thinking principles
• Knowledge of product design and development best practices
• Knowledge of Agile and Lean principles and practices
• Experience working in partnership with user experience teams on product design
• Experience developing/managing digital capabilities

• Expertise in one or more of Product Management, Agile delivery, or Payments Operations
