Job description

ABOUT US

Hi, future teammate!

We are a dedicated group of data nerds inspired by the extraordinary things that can happen when people come together as a community.

We partner with organizations that see community building as a core part of their work. Together, we build customized (and beautiful) data tools and strategies to make their work easier and more impactful. Our primary tool is Salesforce, and we work with clients to not only migrate their data and improve data management, but to make sure that what they measure is actually driving growth and impact. We're now in our 11th year and with 13 full-time team members.

POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Business Analyst / Product Owner at OpenTent, you translate client vision into actionable product roadmaps and hold the context for the value your Scrum team is delivering. You will draw on your knowledge of smart organizational design, Salesforce for nonprofits, and your robust Scrum experience to translate client vision and context to your team of Solutions Engineers.

Similar roles at other companies might be referred to as “Salesforce Business Analyst” or “Technical Project Manager”. We are looking for someone who can bring both strategic and technical lenses to any conversation. This role will call on your ability to support non-profit leaders as they clarify their organizational and technology goals, translate those goals into actionable product backlogs with Epics and User Stories, and ensure your team always knows what to build next and why.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Quarterly Priorities and Stakeholder Alignment

  • Partner with clients, the Project Manager, and team of Engineers to define each client's Quarterly Priorities
  • Ensure alignment with clients on success criteria for all work priorities
  • Facilitate stakeholder alignment conversations and define MVP, including what the OpenTent team will say no to
  • Communicate priority decisions back to the internal team and hold that context throughout Scrum events
  • Facilitate conversations with clients to identify upcoming priorities and create longer-term product backlogs

Backlog Ownership

  • Lead requirement gathering sessions with clients to build a backlog of work and document client processes
  • Lead ongoing backlog refinement: document projects into Epics, break Epics into User Stories, and ensure stories detail all acceptance criteria before entering sprints
  • Hold the overall vision for the final product (“final product” meaning the functionality and result we need to enable, not what we will build/what it will look like)
  • Propose and champion sprint goals in collaboration with the PM and Technical Lead
  • Partner with Engineers to ensure technical requirements are clear and the team has what they need to start work on a story
  • Maintain prioritized backlogs ready for Sprint Planning at all times
  • Support centralizing task information in ClickUp (i.e. resources provided by clients, Project Team and client communication)
  • Sign off that acceptance criteria have been met before work is released

Client Communication and Expectation Management

  • Lead expectation setting on work deliverables with clients and ensure alignment on MVP solutions
  • Help translate and communicate about the work required to complete client priorities for client users and stakeholders, and keep clients informed about progress
  • Lead prioritization decisions to balance value against effort and maintain focus on MVP solutions
  • Lead and/or participate in Sprint Review and Demo meetings with clients and Engineers
  • Surface and elevate risks proactively
  • Lead conversations with clients to listen to concerns, questions, and feedback. Elevate risks up and down the chain internally.

User Adoption and Change Management

  • Support client-facing UAT, training, and change management as needed
  • Develop and own project artifacts, such as process maps, to support user adoption
  • Oversee system rollouts to support comprehensive client adoption

REQUIREMENTS

Every requirement below is a must-have:

  • 3+ years as a Salesforce Business Analyst or Product Owner
  • 1+ years experience with Salesforce NPSP or Nonprofit Cloud in a consulting context
  • 1+ years working directly with nonprofit organizations
  • 1+ years of change management experience
  • Demonstrated experience working within Agile/Scrum methodology
  • Demonstrated experience working with LLM tools such as Claude, Copilot, ChatGPT, or Gemini
  • Experience defining KPIs and leading teams to achieve outcomes, including holding the line on MVP
  • Comfortable managing ambiguous, fast-moving projects across multiple clients simultaneously
  • Experience managing expectations from C-suite and senior stakeholders
  • An excellent communicator. You can present thoughts and ideas well verbally, through emails and through visual communication you design. You are an active listener.
  • A meeting facilitator. You can define meeting goals, chart the path to getting there, address meeting success roadblocks, and foster a productive and collaborative space toward achieving those goals.
  • A problem solver. You are energized when you see something that could be better and motivated to do something about it.

Preferred:

  • Salesforce Certified Business Analyst or CSPO certification
  • Experience configuring Salesforce NPSP or Nonprofit Cloud
  • Experience leveraging AI tools to support product ownership or business analysis work
