Job summary

OpenAI is seeking a Product Manufacturing Engineer to drive manufacturing strategy and execution for next-generation AI hardware in the Silicon & Systems team, with a focus on PCBA manufacturing, assembly, process development, and production readiness. You will partner with design, systems, operations, TPMs, and manufacturers to ensure a smooth transition from concept to high-volume production.

You will own critical manufacturing initiatives, identify production risks, and establish processes

Qualifications

• Experience taking hardware from concept to high-volume manufacturing.
• Deep experience with PCBA manufacturing and assembly processes.
• Experience with JDMs, CMs, suppliers to drive quality, schedule and readiness.
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams across hardware development lifecycle.
• Perform risk assessment and implement corrective actions in manufacturing.

Responsibilities

• Drive manufacturing and quality initiatives from concept to production launch and scale.
• Lead manufacturing process development for next-generation AI hardware systems.
• Own PCBA manufacturing development and production readiness, including assembly, validation, test, rework, yield improvement, and transition to volume production.
• Establish NPI manufacturing processes, quality controls, milestones, and deliverables with internal and external partners.
• Provide hands-on manufacturing engineering support during design, development, prototype, validation, and production phases.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to assess manufacturability and incorporate requirements early.
• Conduct root-cause analysis for manufacturing, assembly, test, yield, and quality issues.
• Research and develop manufacturing automation, test methodologies, tooling, and processes to improve quality and throughput.
• Manage manufacturing requirements, schedules, readiness criteria, and deliverables across teams and suppliers.
• Drive manufacturing readiness reviews and ensure production-readiness criteria are met.
