Job description

Reality Labs is developing future products in augmented reality and virtual reality with breakthrough work including computer vision, advanced optics, input and interaction, artificial intelligence, neuroscience, mapping the world, and redefining human hearing.

As a Research Product Manager, you will work closely with research and product teams to define requirements for new-to-world experiences within augmented reality—changing the way we work, communicate, and be entertained. Our team envisions, creates, incubates, and transfers advanced technologies from research to product. Research product management roles span hardware/software systems, cloud services, interaction design, application experiences, and artificial intelligence, offering collaboration with Ph.D. researchers and product development teams.

You will ramp up to multiple areas of groundbreaking research, understanding their capabilities and limitations, and develop visions for near, mid, and long-term horizons. You will create technology transfer strategies, roadmaps, and prototypes balancing experience value, technical feasibility, and business cases. Success metrics include advancing research, understanding future product design space, and shipping products or creating new categories for millions of users.

You will partner with research science and product teams to develop innovative experiences that push beyond the current state-of-the-art and contribute to human knowledge.

Product Manager, Research (Reality Labs) Responsibilities:
  1. Develop scope, mission, and strategy to mature research toward product integration.
  2. Define requirements and lead prototype development to advance experience value, research insights, or technology readiness.
  3. Collaborate with research science teams to inform long-term research agendas with high potential for compelling product experiences.
  4. Build relationships with product teams to provide research insights and identify collaboration or technology transfer opportunities.
  5. Understand external partner landscape, manage relationships, influence roadmaps, and bring promising technologies into the lab.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of product management or related experience, including developing 0-to-1 value propositions.
  • Engineering coursework or 3+ years experience in hardware, software, platform, or AI/ML disciplines.
  • Experience structuring unstructured work, developing strategies, and adapting to change.
  • Experience in research or development programs with high ambiguity, technical complexity, risk, and multi-year timelines.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-company communication, collaboration, and stakeholder influence.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Relevant research experience.
  • Graduate coursework in business, engineering, or design.
  • Experience transforming early-stage technology into commercial products.
