Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Technical Coach to help high-performing software engineering teams improve their engineering practices, delivery effectiveness, technical capabilities, and overall product development maturity.

This role is focused on coaching and mentoring engineering teams, architects, and technical leaders while helping organizations adopt modern software engineering, Agile, DevOps, cloud, AI/ML, and continuous delivery practices.

The ideal candidate will bring strong hands-on software development experience combined with the ability to coach teams, facilitate technical workshops, identify engineering opportunities, and influence technology culture across an enterprise environment.

What You'll Do
  • Coach software engineering teams in an immersive technical coaching and learning environment.
  • Evaluate products, portfolios, architectures, and engineering practices to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Facilitate Value Stream Mapping sessions to identify opportunities across development and operational value streams.
  • Identify opportunities to improve engineering flow, eliminate waste, reduce dependencies, decouple applications, and enable service-oriented architectures.
  • Define and curate leading indicators and engineering metrics to measure progress toward desired outcomes.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert in modern technology, software architecture, engineering practices, and DevOps.
  • Work with engineering teams and leadership to influence and strengthen the organization's engineering culture.
  • Collaborate with product teams to improve customer and business value delivery.
  • Mentor engineers, architects, and technical practitioners through hands-on learning and problem solving.
  • Lead large-scale pairing and mob-programming sessions to accelerate learning and improve technical outcomes.
  • Design and develop facilitator-led training materials focused on modern engineering practices and ways of working.
  • Bring real-world software engineering experience to the technical enablement organization.
  • Help establish and grow a community of technical coaches and engineering practitioners across the enterprise.
  • Embed with engineering teams to understand their technical environments, workflows, behaviors, and challenges before designing coaching interventions.
  • Develop and implement targeted coaching interventions for software engineers, architects, and technical teams.
  • Demonstrate and reinforce desired engineering behaviors and organizational practices.
  • Professionally identify and address behaviors or practices that may negatively impact team effectiveness.
  • Contribute to developer experience initiatives and platforms designed to reduce organizational friction and improve continuous delivery.
  • Identify opportunities to simplify systems, improve reliability, and reduce the cost of change.
  • Support teams in adopting engineering practices that improve performance, resiliency, maintainability, and quality.
Mandatory Skills & Experience
  • 12+ years of professional technology/software engineering experience.
  • Strong experience with AI and Machine Learning.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Strong hands-on software development experience.
  • Previous technical coaching, mentoring, or engineering enablement experience.
  • Strong experience with Test-Driven Development (TDD).
  • Professional experience with Java and/or Python.
  • Experience working with high-performing Agile and DevOps teams.
  • Demonstrated expertise in at least one object-oriented programming language.
  • Strong understanding of modern software engineering practices and principles.
Minimum Qualifications
Education & Professional Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience working in an Agile software development environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in at least one object-oriented programming language.
  • Previous experience supporting high-performing Agile and/or DevOps teams.
  • Previous experience coaching, mentoring, or enabling engineers and technical professionals.
  • Hands-on experience with engineering practices including:
  • Object-oriented design patterns
  • Extreme Programming (XP)
  • Test-Driven Development (TDD)
  • Behavior-Driven Development (BDD)
  • Refactoring
  • Automation
  • Experience with Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD).
  • Strong knowledge of Agile methodologies including Extreme Programming, Kanban, and Scrum.
  • Experience implementing and operating DevOps tools and platforms across portions of the software development lifecycle.
  • Experience deploying and supporting business-critical, Internet-scale distributed systems or high-volume client/server systems.
  • Proven SQL experience and ability to design relational database schemas.
  • Ability to evaluate existing architectures and recommend optimizations that improve deployment, scalability, reliability, and cost of change.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on software engineering professional who has evolved into a technical coaching or engineering enablement role.

A strong candidate will have experience with modern software engineering, Agile, DevOps, cloud technologies, CI/CD, automated testing, distributed systems, and emerging AI/ML technologies. They should also be able to translate their technical expertise into practical coaching interventions that help engineering teams adopt better ways of working.
