Brandt Information Services is the leading provider of SaaS technology and marketing services for state wildlife and parks agencies across the United States. Our software platform powers the digital infrastructure behind outdoor recreation, enabling millions of people to explore public lands by purchasing campground reservations, fishing and hunting licenses, boat registrations, and more. Every transaction we facilitate helps generate critical funding for state conservation efforts and outdoor recreation improvements.
As a market-leading platform with a proven growth strategy and backed by a blue-chip private equity sponsor, Brandt offers the best of both worlds: the stability of an established enterprise and the momentum of a high-growth technology company.
We are now entering an exciting new phase of our growth journey with the launch of our merchandise e-commerce program. This offering allows Brandt to extend its impact beyond transactional services by curating high-quality gear and merchandise tailored to outdoor enthusiasts. This is a rare opportunity to help shape a growth-stage business unit inside a mission-driven organization, while contributing to the broader mission of modernizing how the public connects with the outdoors.
This individual will lead the vision, strategy, and execution of Brandt’s merchandise program. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, this leader will be accountable for launching and scaling a high-impact merchandise offering that deepens customer engagement, drives incremental revenue, and serves as a strategic differentiator for Brandt in the marketplace. The preferred candidate should have experience in leading the development of e-commerce solutions. These include, but are not limited to, online storefront, shopping cart, checkout flow, mobile app, search and recommendation engines, loyalty programs, and backend tools like order management or inventory systems.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Product Strategy & Business Ownership
- Define and execute the merchandise roadmap aligned with corporate strategy and customer experience objectives.
- Own end-to-end product lifecycle—from discovery and definition to go-to-market launch and optimization.
- Monitor and manage unit economics, cost structures, and pricing strategies to ensure sustainable growth and profitability.
- Lead quarterly business reviews and performance reporting, including revenue targets, margin performance, and user KPIs.
- Articulate and present the merchandise product strategy to board members, investors, and key stakeholders (internal and external customers), effectively communicating vision, objectives, and performance metrics to gain buy-in and alignment.
2. Cross-Functional Leadership & Execution
- Build, lead, and mentor a cross-functional team comprising product managers, software engineers, UI/UX developers, merchandise buyers, and third-party fulfillment resources.
- Ensure clear accountability and collaborative alignment across merchandising, operations, finance, and customer support functions.
- Develop and manage operating budgets and staffing plans related to the merchandise business unit.
3. Agile Product Development
- Serve as product leader for the merchandise platform, overseeing (and initially leading) sprint planning, backlog prioritization, and agile ceremonies.
- Partner with internal development teams and third-party vendors to deliver high-quality, scalable technology solutions.
- Drive continuous discovery and customer feedback loops to validate features, test merchandising strategies, and refine UX.
4. Go-to-Market & Growth Enablement
- Define and drive the go-to-market strategy for the merchandise program, including branding, promotional campaigns, and seasonal releases.
- Partner with our customers (agencies) to develop product positioning, messaging, and bundling strategies.
- Act as a product evangelist and subject matter expert in customer, sales, and partner engagements.
Oversee the direction and management of the merchandising personnel to ensure the following functions are performed:
- Managing the supplier lifecycle for merchandise, including contract negotiation, onboarding, and relationship management.
- Monitoring and optimizing supplier performance using KPIs and corrective actions.
- Collaboration with Legal, Finance, Procurement teams to manage contracts and enforce service agreements.
- Collaborating with agency partners to ensure product alignment with customer needs, seasonality, and compliance with statutory regulations for product gear.
- Maintaining vendor documentation and ensuring regulatory compliance.
- Identifying new vendors and optimize sourcing strategies while supporting product expansion.
6. People Management
- Directly manage and develop a multidisciplinary team, including product managers, developers, buyers, and operational staff.
- Set clear goals and performance expectations aligned with business priorities; conduct regular 1:1s, feedback sessions, and performance reviews.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and results-oriented team culture focused on innovation, customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement.
- Identify and support professional development opportunities to build skills, increase retention, and strengthen the talent pipeline.
- Serve as a coach and mentor, promoting accountability, ownership, and leadership at all levels of the merchandise e-commerce team.
Qualifications & Experience:
- 7+ years of product management experience with a track record of launching successful e-commerce or consumer-facing digital products.
- Experience managing cross-disciplinary teams (e.g., engineering, merchandising) with proven leadership in scaling operations.
- Strong commercial acumen with a hands-on approach to solving strategic, operational, and technical challenges.
- Advanced understanding of e-commerce platforms, online merchandising best practices, and supply chain logistics.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies and tools (e.g., Jira, Trello, Confluence).
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Demonstrated P&L ownership and experience driving financial performance of a product line or business unit.
