The H&R Block Embark 2027 Summer Internship offers hands-on experience for students in Business Administration, Product Management, Computer Science, and Business Analytics at our Kansas City headquarters in the Power & Light District. This 11-week paid program runs May 17, 2027 – July 30, 2027, with a compensation of $25/hour.

  • Must have high school diploma or equivalent with GPA 3.0+.
  • Pursuing a degree in Business Administration, Business/Data Analytics, Computer Science, or Business Management.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Quick learner comfortable with new programs/databases.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced corporate environment.

Responsibilities

  • Support product discovery by researching customer needs and opportunities.
  • Assist in writing user stories and acceptance criteria for engineering and design.
  • Participate in product planning and ceremonies; help manage the backlog.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver features on time and with quality.
  • Use data and metrics to evaluate product performance and inform decisions.
  • Engage in professional development to build PM, Agile, and collaboration skills.
  • Interns will receive guidance but are encouraged to work independently.

About The Role

Turn your classroom learning into real-world impact with H&R Block’s Embark 2027 Summer Internship Program, open to students studying Business Management/Administration , Product Management , Computer Science , and Business Analytics. This 11-week paid internship offers meaningful, real-world experience that aligns with your field of study while making a valuable impact on our organization.

The Embark 2027 Summer Internship runs from May 17, 2027 — July 30, 2027.

You’ll work at our corporate headquarters in the heart of downtown Kansas City’s Power & Light District, where you’re just steps, or a streetcar ride, away from incredible restaurants, entertainment, and city energy. Inside our building, you’ll have access to amenities that make work-life balance easy, including an onsite Starbucks, a company dining hall with plenty of options, a free fitness center, and free parking!

Program Highlights
  • $25/hour compensation
  • Paid PTO during H&R Block’s annual Reboot Week (June 28 — July 2)
  • Housing stipend provided for students whose permanent address is more than 50 miles from the KC metro
Internship Responsibilities
  • Support product discovery by researching customer needs and identifying opportunities that align with business goals.
  • Assist in writing clear user stories and acceptance criteria to guide engineering and design work.
  • Participate in product planning and ceremonies, helping manage the product backlog and prioritize features.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver features on time and with quality.
  • Use data and metrics to evaluate product performance and support data-driven decision making.
  • Engage in professional development to build product management, Agile, and collaboration skills.
  • Interns will be provided with significant guidance and mentoring but will also be encouraged to work independently as well.

Throughout The 11-week Internship, As a Part Of The Embark Program, Interns Will Also Participate In Workshops And Events That Align With The Program’s Four Pillars

Professional Development: includes the basics for a professional role, everything from using Microsoft Office to setting up a Teams meeting and giving a presentation.

Giveback: involves participating in Make Every Block Better community service events. The goal is to teach the importance of community, make an impact, and provide bonding time for teams.

Networking: entails meeting various executives with offices at H&R Block’s headquarters, having lunch with directors and vice presidents, spending time with a mentor and getting to know people beyond their assigned department.

Connected Culture: is meant to be fun and teach the importance of working hard and playing hard. H&R Block might take the interns to a Kansas City Royals game or facilitate other competitions meant to be fun or instill teamwork.

Education
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Seeking to obtain a degree in Business Administration, Business/Data Analytics, Computer Science, Business Management or some similar discipline with a GPA of 3.0 or above
  • Ability to work as part of a diverse team and independently
  • Highly motivated, organized, reliable, and detail-oriented
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Quick learner and not afraid to work with new computer-based programs and databases
  • Ability to be effective and contribute in a fast-paced corporate environment
Work Experience
  • No previous work experience necessary.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated interest in product management, digital products, customer experience, or product strategy
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an interest in using data and customer insights to inform product decisions
  • Ability to identify customer needs, define problems, and develop thoughtful solutions
  • Interest in customer research, user testing, and translating feedback into actionable product recommendations
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across Product, Design/UX, Engineering, and other cross-functional teams
  • Familiarity with or interest in Agile product development, roadmapping, product prioritization, and sprint-based ways of working
  • Comfort working with data, product metrics, dashboards, or analytics tools to identify trends and communicate insights
