• Run the sophisticated user defense when the facts permit.

Product Liability Associate | Fully Remote, Los Angeles | $235,000 to $275,000

This is a product liability associate job, fully remote and attached to Los Angeles, and two years of litigation is enough to be considered for it.

The money is $235,000 to $275,000, which is a lot of money for somebody two years in, and I'd be surprised if you've seen many like it. The clients are manufacturers and distributors of chemicals, drugs, medical devices, industrial equipment and the everyday stuff that ends up under people's kitchen sinks. The group acts as national coordinating counsel and also runs the California case on the same product, so you get to see how the defense fits together across the country, with your courthouse as one piece of it.

Appellate lawyers are brought in early, before anything's been tried, and an e discovery team takes the document review, so your second year isn't spent coding PDFs.

The claims you'd see:

• Failure to warn, design defect and manufacturing defect
• Catastrophic injury
• Cases tied into MDLs, where the coordinating is half the work

Where your weeks would go:

• Getting on top of the science and the exposure early, before discovery sets it in stone
• Deposing the plaintiff's causation experts, then building Sargon motions against how they reached their opinions
• Barker arguments, risk benefit set against consumer expectations
• Running the sophisticated user defense when the facts give you room

Two years of litigation or more and the California Bar gets you considered, and when you apply they want a cover letter, your transcript and a writing sample.
