Weiss-Aug in Denville, NJ is seeking a Product Innovation Engineer focused on Sharps, Blades & Advanced Surgical Devices to design, develop, and bring to market precision sharps technologies. You will work with OEM customers, contract manufacturers, and R&D teams to deliver innovative products from concept to commercialization.

The role requires a mechanical/manufacturing engineering background, 10+ years of experience, and hands-on experience with surgical blades or related instruments.

Qualifications

We're currently seeking a passionate and skilled Product Innovation Engineer | Sharps, Blades & Advanced Surgical Devices to join our team and contribute to our mission of delivering high-quality, engineered solutions to our customers worldwide. In this role you will be responsible for the design, development, and commercialization of innovative surgical blades, needles, cannulas, and other precision sharps technologies. This role serves as a critical link between OEM customers, contract manufacturing partners, product development, manufacturing, and operations. The successful candidate will work directly with customer engineering, R&D, procurement, and manufacturing teams to develop innovative products and scalable manufacturing solutions.

Responsibilities

CUSTOMER & BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT ENGAGEMENT

• Serve as the primary technical resource supporting OEM customers, strategic accounts, and contract manufacturing partners.
• Work directly with customer engineering, R&D, manufacturing, and sourcing teams to understand product requirements and identify opportunities.
• Collaborate with customers on product design, material selection, manufacturability improvements, and cost optimization.
• Support technical sales efforts through customer visits, design reviews, supplier audits, and strategic business discussions.
• Translate customer requirements into robust engineering specifications and manufacturable designs.
• Support quoting, feasibility assessments, prototyping, and commercialization activities.

PRODUCT DESIGN, MATERIALS & MANUFACTURING

• Lead development of surgical blades, needles, cannulas, trocars, and precision sharps.
• Provide expertise in stainless steels, specialty alloys, metallurgy, heat treatment, grinding, sharpening, and edge formation technologies.
• Develop and optimize manufacturing processes including grinding, laser cutting, stamping, forming, electropolishing, surface finishing, and coatings.
• Provide hands-on support for prototyping, validation, scale-up, and continuous improvement.
• Lead development involving injection molding, insert molding, overmolding, medical-grade polymers, and metal-to-plastic assemblies.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of engineering experience.
• Must have experience with surgical blades, needles, cannulas, trocars, ophthalmic blades, or specialty cutting instruments.
• Experience supporting OEM medical device customers and contract manufacturing organizations.
• Proven success taking products from concept through commercialization.

This position is at our Denville, NJ location.
