Job summary

Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) seeks an Engineering Lead to guide an agile data applications pod in our Denver hybrid team. You will partner with product leadership to define a roadmap, supervise technical delivery, and drive architectural excellence while mentoring engineers and delivering secure, scalable solutions.

The role requires strong hands-on engineering, strong communication, and a commitment to engineering best practices within a collaborative, fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

  • Advanced understanding of agile software development practices (Scrum or Kanban).
  • Proven experience with modern engineering and architectural patterns, CI/CD, and DevOps/DevSecOps.
  • Technical proficiency in .NET, C#, REST APIs, SQL, and modern front-end frameworks.
  • Familiarity with microservices, cloud platforms (Azure), and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Ability to provide leadership without formal authority, influencing and organizing work among peers.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the technical lead for the agile pod within the designated value stream.
  • Co-develop the value stream’s technical roadmap with product managers and stakeholders.
  • Own technical delivery and ensure adherence to standards, timelines, and architectural guidelines.
  • Break down large features into tasks and monitor progress across the pod.
  • Mentor junior developers and foster continuous improvement within the team.
  • Ensure code quality through reviews and adherence to best practices; maintain hands-on coding activities.
  • Deliver secure, scalable, and maintainable data applications solutions.
  • Lead data ingestion and ETL processes to support data applications.

The Medical Group Management Association (MGMA is looking for an Engineering Lead to join our Denver/hybrid team.
The Engineering Lead provides administrative/operational support to the Sales & Account Management Teams. This position oversees the coordination of activities between Provider Services and other departments within the organization, as well as overseeing process improvement and efficiency of administrative duties.
Serves as the technical leader for an agile engineering pod within the Data Applications value stream, providing direction, technical leadership, and execution oversight for a defined set of technology capabilities. The Engineering Lead partners closely with product leadership to co-own the roadmap for their value stream, ensure high-quality technical delivery, and guide engineering best practices across the pod. While not a formal people manager, this role leads by influence and is responsible for helping delegate, structure, and monitor engineering work in a collaborative, agile environment. The role requires strong technical expertise, communication skills, and a commitment to excellence across delivery, architecture, and engineering practices .


Essential Functions


  • Serve as the technical lead for the agile pod within the assigned value stream, providing day-to-day direction and guidance to developers and other contributors.

  • Collaborate with product managers and business stakeholders to co-develop the value stream’s technical roadmap, helping to define priorities, estimate work, and ensure alignment with business outcomes.

  • Own technical delivery and ensure development is executed according to agreed standards, timelines, and architectural guidelines.

  • Break down large features into actionable development tasks, delegate work across the pod, and monitor task progress.

  • Foster high-performing team behaviors by applying agile principles, mentoring junior developers, and encouraging continuous improvement.

  • Ensure code quality and technical consistency through code reviews, technical coaching, and adherence to software development best practices.

  • Maintain hands-on involvement with coding, solutioning, troubleshooting, and system design.

  • Ensure the delivery of secure, scalable, and maintainable solutions that meet business and technical requirements.

  • Advocate for engineering excellence and innovation, staying current on emerging tools, frameworks, and practices.

  • Act as a liaison between the engineering pod and other technical functions (e.g., architecture, security, DevOps, QA/QE).

  • Lead technical delivery for member-facing data applications, incorporating principles of data engineering, data analytics, data quality and data integrity.

  • Guide the development and maintenance of scalable ingestion and ETL processes that support data applications.

  • Other duties as required and necessary to ensure the success of the organization.


Requirements

Knowledge, skills, and abilities (required unless otherwise noted)


  • Advanced understanding of agile software development practices, including Scrum or Kanban.

  • Proven experience with modern engineering and architectural patterns, CI/CD pipelines, and DevOps/DevSecOps practices.

  • Technical proficiency in .NET, C#, REST APIs, SQL, and modern front-end frameworks.

  • Familiarity with microservices architecture, cloud platforms (e.g., Azure), and containerized environments (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

  • Strong collaboration and communication skills with ability to work across technical and non-technical teams.

  • Ability to provide leadership without formal authority, influencing and organizing work among peers.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.

  • Experience with test automation, QA/QE processes, and performance tuning preferred.


Education


  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field required.


Experience


  • Five (5) or more years of hands‑on software engineering experience.

  • Prior experience as a team lead, tech lead, or similar influential technical leadership role within an agile development environment.


Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications


  • Must have reliable transportation.

  • Must have a valid driver’s license.


A combination of experience and education will be considered in lieu of education and experience requirements.
