A cutting-edge biotech company in the United States is looking for a Lead Engineer to drive development of interactive web applications for DNA sequencing. You'll write production code, manage a small team, and engage with customers to ensure the product's success. Ideal candidates are effective communicators and lifelong learners who thrive in fast-paced environments. This role offers an opportunity to make significant impacts in the scientific community.
Plasmidsaurus has already revolutionized the scientific protocol of DNA sequencing — we’ve built the world’s fastest sequencing platform, relied on by thousands of researchers. But today, customers just get a raw data dump of “ATCG.” The next step is to create intuitive tools that transform that data into answers.
Because we control the sequencing process and the wet lab, we know exactly what kind of analysis scientists need — something that slow, expensive, legacy biotech SaaS tools get wrong. Most companies hire a data scientist to do this work; we can do it for them. That’s the opportunity you’ll be driving forward.
As our next engineering leader, you’ll build and own highly interactive web apps that allow scientists to visualize sequencing results, quickly identify mutations, and uncover insights powering world-changing research. Users are already ecstatic for the features you’ll be working on. Here’s an example.
You’ll join as a core contributor, then grow into a leadership role guiding the technical architecture of our data visualization stack, overall product development, and the direction of the team.
You are someone who:
Enjoys high agency and high ownership work
Loves talking to customers to identify the right problem to solve
Can drive the roadmap to build a cohesive product ecosystem
Can lead technical projects from idea to production independently
Enjoys wearing the engineer, manager, and product manager hats
Is excited to make an impact on the scientific community, enabling the next generation of medicines, biotechnology, and plant-based meats
Is a life-long learner who thrives in solving complex, novel problems
Is excited to work in a tight-knit, fast-paced environment with a motivated team
Values clear communication and helping others learn new skills
We’re looking for a lead engineer who can:
Be an awesome IC (writing code, shipping features)
Manage a small team (initially 2 engineers, scaling as we grow)
Act as their own “product manager,” defining problems and solutions in close contact with customers
Early on, you’ll spend most of your time building — writing production code, architecting systems, and shipping features scientists use every day. As the team grows, you’ll do more management and leadership, but this is not a full-time management role to start.
