Job summary

A. O. Smith, based in Milwaukee, WI, is seeking a Product Engineer to lead new product development, sustain existing product lines, and support manufacturing operations using SolidWorks.

The role emphasizes design-for-manufacturability, cost optimization, and PLM data management, with cross-functional collaboration across Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain to improve performance and reliability.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering; 5+ years product engineering or design engineering in manufacturing.
• Experience with sustaining engineering and product lifecycle management preferred.
• Knowledge of plastic part design and plastic injection molding processes.
• Knowledge of water treatment and regulatory compliance preferred, but not required.

Responsibilities

• Lead design and development activities for new products, including CAD modeling, prototyping, testing, and validation.
• Provide DFx input for manufacturing and assembly.
• Assist in transitioning new products from development to production.
• Provide engineering support to ensure performance, reliability, and regulatory compliance of current products.
• Investigate field issues and customer complaints; drive corrective actions.
• Identify and implement design improvements to enhance durability, manufacturability, and cost reduction.
• Collaborate with Quality, Manufacturing and Supply Chain to execute improvement projects.
• Create, modify, and maintain 3D models, assemblies, and drawings using SolidWorks; manage BOMs and data in PLM/PDM.
