Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree inMechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline preferred.
  • Product engineering or mechanical design experience in manufacturing preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience may be considered.
  • Experience with complex mechanical equipment or machinery preferred.

Position Summary:

The Product Engineer is responsible for supporting the design, development, improvement, testing, and ongoing technical support of company products. This role applies engineering principles to improve product performance, reliability, manufacturability, quality, and cost effectiveness.

The Product Engineer works cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Sales, Service, and suppliers to develop new products, implement product improvements, resolve technical issues, and support products throughout their lifecycle. This position also develops expertise in mechanical, hydraulic, and related systems used in the company's equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Product Engineering & Development
  • Design, develop, and improve products, components, systems, and assemblies in support of customer and business requirements.
  • Create and modify 3D models, assemblies, engineering drawings, specifications, and related technical documentation.
  • Apply engineering principles and design best practices to ensure products meet functional, performance, quality, safety, and reliability requirements.
  • Participate in product and design reviews to identify technical risks and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Support new product development projects from concept through prototype, validation, production launch, and ongoing product support.
  • Maintain accurate engineering drawings, bills of material (BOMs), specifications, and other product documentation.
  • Initiate and support engineering change processes for product improvements and design modifications.
Manufacturing & Production Support
  • Provide technical engineering support to Manufacturing for existing and newly released products.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering and Operations to improve product manufacturability and assembly processes.
  • Troubleshoot production issues involving product design, components, tolerances, fit, function, and performance.
  • Evaluate design changes intended to improve production efficiency, product quality, and first-pass yield.
  • Support resolution of nonconforming material and other product-related manufacturing concerns.
  • Provide timely engineering solutions that minimize production disruption.
Hydraulic & Mechanical Systems
  • Develop and maintain technical expertise in hydraulic, mechanical, structural, and related systems used in company products.
  • Apply hydraulic and mechanical engineering principles to product development, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement.
  • Work with suppliers and technical resources to evaluate and select components appropriate for product applications.
  • Analyze system performance and recommend improvements that enhance product functionality, reliability, and efficiency.
Requirements
Education & Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related engineering discipline preferred.
  • Product engineering, mechanical design, or related engineering experience within a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Equivalent combinations of relevant education, technical training, and professional experience may be considered.
  • Experience working with complex mechanical equipment, machinery, or manufactured products preferred.
Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software; SolidWorks experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience with PDM or other engineering document management systems.
  • Ability to create and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, bills of material, and technical documentation.
  • Working knowledge of mechanical design principles, materials, tolerances, manufacturing processes, and component selection.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems and components is preferred.
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems; Epicor experience preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Understanding of engineering change control and product lifecycle processes.
  • Ability to interpret and analyze engineering and product test data.
Communication & Collaboration Skills:
  • Strong written, verbal, and technical communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate technical information effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Supply Chain, Sales, and Service.
  • Ability to work effectively with suppliers and customers when resolving technical issues.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and projects.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with construction, paving, agricultural, material-handling, off-highway, or other mobile industrial equipment.
  • Experience with hydraulic system design, troubleshooting, or component selection.
  • SolidWorks and PDM experience.
  • Experience with fabricated steel structures, weldments, mechanical assemblies, and complex BOMs.
  • Product development and new product introduction experience.
