• Knowledge of DFM, injection molding, LEDs, optics, and cost-efficient design.

Responsibilities

• Conceptualize, design, and test innovative automotive lighting products.
• Work daily with Asia-based engineering teams.
• Define and execute testing plans, ensure compliance with industry standards.
• Attend PDT meetings, design reviews, vehicle builds, and plant launches.
• Present technical findings clearly to large groups.

Product Development Engineer – Automotive Lighting

About the Role

TYC Americas is expanding in Wixom, Michigan with our newly created Michigan Mobility Center — a hub dedicated to state-of-the-art automotive lighting and mobility technologies. As we grow with exciting new customer programs, we are building a team of talented engineers right here in Michigan to drive innovation and deliver world-class solutions.

As a Product Development Engineer, you’ll play a key role in shaping the future of TYC’s Automotive OEM business, leading the design, development, and validation of advanced lighting systems in partnership with our global engineering teams. This is a unique opportunity to join a fast-growing organization, work hands-on with cutting-edge technology, collaborate with major OEM customers, and contribute directly to the growth of our U.S. operations.

What You’ll Do

• Design & Develop: Conceptualize, design, and test innovative automotive lighting products using Catia V5 or Siemens NX.
• Collaborate Globally: Work daily with Asia-based engineering teams; synthesize outputs and present results to customers and leadership.
• Validate & Improve: Define and execute testing plans, ensure compliance with industry standards, and drive design improvements.
• Customer Support: Attend PDT meetings, design reviews, vehicle builds, and plant launches at customer facilities.
• Lead Communication: Present technical findings clearly to large groups and stakeholders.

What We’re Looking For

• 7+ years in Mechanical, Electrical, or related Engineering field.
• Preference of experience with automotive exterior lighting systems.
• Strong CAD experience (Catia V5 / Siemens NX).
• Proven success managing programs from sourcing through production launch.
• Knowledge of DFM, injection molding, LEDs, optics, and cost-efficient design.
• Strong communicator, able to thrive in both customer and in-office environments.
• BS in Engineering (Mechanical preferred).
