Job summary

SoTalent in Wisconsin is seeking a Product Engineer – Domestic Case Goods to manage the engineering lifecycle from concept through production and discontinuation. You will translate concepts into manufacturable designs, produce CAD drawings and BOMs, and support cross-functional teams to meet performance, cost, and quality targets.

The ideal candidate holds a bachelor's degree in engineering and up to 2 years' furniture-manufacturing experience, with CAD proficiency and familiarity with MRP/ERP

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field preferred.
  • 0–2 years of experience in furniture manufacturing or case goods engineering preferred.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and familiarity with MRP/ERP systems (Infor preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end engineering process for domestic case goods from concept through production.
  • Develop and maintain engineering drawings, solid models, specifications, and BOMs.
  • Translate design concepts and preliminary drawings into fully engineered, manufacturable products.
  • Create and manage Engineering Introduction Orders (EIOs), Bills of Materials (BOMs), and supporting engineering documentation.
  • Ensure product components are accurately specified and itemized with a focus on manufacturability and cost efficiency.
  • Participate in mock-ups, first builds, and initial production runs to validate product performance and assembly requirements.
  • Identify and implement engineering revisions based on production feedback and testing.
  • Troubleshoot fabrication and assembly issues and perform root-cause analysis.
  • Create and maintain Material Requirements Planning (MRP) data within Infor and related systems.
  • Manage Engineering Change Orders (ECOs) and engineering revisions while minimizing disruption to manufacturing.
  • Maintain accurate BOMs, drawings, product specifications, and customer service documentation.
  • Ensure engineering records are complete, accurate, and properly maintained across relevant systems.
  • Support compliance with applicable ASTM, CPSC, and other regulatory testing requirements prior to production.

Overview

A leading home furnishings manufacturer is seeking a Product Engineer – Domestic Case Goods to manage the engineering lifecycle of furniture products from initial concept through production and eventual discontinuation.

The role focuses on translating product concepts into manufacturable designs through engineering drawings, CAD models, bills of materials, production documentation, testing, and continuous improvement. The successful candidate will work closely with Product Development, Design, Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, and other cross-functional teams to deliver products that meet performance, cost, quality, and manufacturing requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Cost & Product Optimization
  • Analyze product margins and identify opportunities to reduce product and manufacturing costs.
  • Evaluate components, materials, tooling, and processes for cost and efficiency improvements.
  • Support product testing, standardization, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Recommend engineering and design changes that improve product performance, quality, manufacturability, and profitability.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner with Product Development, Design, Manufacturing, Fabrication, Assembly, Quality, and Purchasing teams.
  • Provide technical guidance and engineering solutions during product development and production activities.
  • Communicate technical specifications, requirements, and engineering changes to internal teams and external partners.
  • Participate in cross-functional meetings and provide technical insight into product and manufacturing challenges.
  • Provide training and guidance on engineering processes, systems, and documentation.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain accurate product knowledge, customer instructions, and engineering documentation across internal systems.
  • Support departmental initiatives, training, and knowledge-sharing activities.
  • Serve as a technical resource and backup for team members when required.
  • Stay current with engineering technologies, CAD tools, manufacturing methodologies, and relevant software.
  • Support special projects and other departmental initiatives as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field preferred.
  • 0–2 years of experience in furniture manufacturing or case goods engineering preferred.
  • Proficiency with CAD software.
  • Experience with MRP/ERP systems; Infor experience is an advantage.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of product development and manufacturing processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and technical documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with limited supervision.
  • Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills.

The position is based in an active industrial manufacturing and distribution environment with moderate to high noise levels, temperature variations, and material-handling equipment.

The role may involve extended periods of standing or walking on concrete floors. Personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and steel-toed footwear, may be required. The environment is fast-paced and may involve time-sensitive and safety-sensitive manufacturing operations.
