Job summary

OMT-Veyhl in Holland, MI is seeking a Product Engineer to provide engineering support and technical leadership across the product lifecycle, from development through launch and manufacturing.

You will manage improvements, lead design for manufacturing, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure quality, cost, and performance targets. The role requires hands-on prototyping, testing, and clear communication with management and suppliers.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
  • Minimum of two years of product engineering experience.
  • Experience with metal fabrication design and manufacturing processes preferred.
  • Experience designing or supporting office furniture or related products preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Manage product development activities across the lifecycle from concept to launch.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Product Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, and other teams to ensure design for manufacturability and on-time release.
  • Lead design activities focused on design for manufacturing, automation, material utilization, and production efficiency.
  • Develop engineering solutions balancing technical analysis with project execution.
  • Perform product testing and validation; analyze results and recommend improvements to product specifications, quality, and performance.
  • Provide guidance to less experienced engineers, co-ops, and project team members as needed.

Job description

The Product Engineer provides engineering support and technical leadership for assigned products throughout all phases of product development, launch, and manufacturing. This role independently manages product improvements, resolves complex engineering challenges, supports cross-functional initiatives, and ensures products meet quality, cost, performance, and manufacturability requirements.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage and support product development activities throughout the product lifecycle, including new product introductions, design updates, and cross-functional project initiatives.
  • Collaborate with Project Managers, Product Engineers, Manufacturing Engineers, and other teams to ensure successful product design, release, manufacturability, and on-time launch.
  • Lead design activities focused on design for manufacturing, automation, material utilization, and production efficiency.
  • Develop engineering solutions to complex product and manufacturing challenges while balancing technical analysis with project execution.
  • Perform product testing and validation activities; analyze results and recommend improvements to product specifications, quality, and performance.
  • Support prototype development, packaging integration, and manufacturing process improvements.
  • Communicate technical project status, recommendations, and engineering decisions to management and cross-functional teams.
  • Provide guidance and support to less experienced engineers, co-ops, and project team members as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong knowledge of engineering concepts, product development, and manufacturing processes within a metals manufacturing environment.
  • Proficient in SolidWorks or similar advanced 3D CAD software with the ability to develop and evaluate product designs.
  • Hands-on engineering approach with the ability to prototype, build, test, and validate product solutions.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to collaborate, influence, and support cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, interpret technical documentation, and communicate complex information to management and customers.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to evaluate issues, interpret requirements, and develop effective solutions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including intermediate Excel and Word skills.
  • Experience with BIFMA and/or UL testing standards preferred.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, written instructions, diagrams, and specifications.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited college or university required.
  • Minimum of two years of product engineering experience required.
  • Experience with metal fabrication design and manufacturing processes preferred.
  • Experience designing or supporting office furniture or related products preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Regularly communicate and exchange accurate information with co-workers, team members, and other stakeholders.
  • Frequently remain in a stationary position while performing engineering, design, and documentation activities, with occasional movement throughout the facility.
  • Occasionally navigate and position oneself around workstations, manufacturing equipment, tools, and fixtures.
  • Occasionally lift, move, and transport components, tools, and equipment weighing 10–60 pounds.
  • Requires the ability to perform close and distance visual tasks, distinguish colors, and adjust focus to support product design, testing, and manufacturing activities.
