Job description

Product Engineer, YC-Backed GovTech Start-Up, AI Product (Full-Stack)

Remote, United States

I’m working with a YC-backed, Series A start-up building AI-powered software for the public sector. Their platform helps government teams handle high volumes of data, records and requests from the public, with AI assisting where it can and staff staying in control. It’s live with hundreds of government offices across the US, and the company is well funded with strong revenue growth.

The team is fully remote and engineering is split into small product teams. They’re hiring Product Engineers who want to own what gets built, not just how it gets built.

The Role

You’ll own customer deliverables end to end, from talking directly with government customers to shipping the AI-powered features that come out of those conversations. There’s no ticket-taking culture here. You set your own pace and drive work forward without waiting for detailed specs.

Typical work includes:

  • Scoping, building and iterating on product features with minimal oversight
  • Talking directly with county customers to understand their needs and turning that into product decisions
  • Shipping full-stack features across frontend, backend and AI-powered tooling
  • Travelling to customer sites from time to time to see the product in use and iterate quickly
  • Jumping into new problems and figuring things out independently, much like a forward-deployed engineer

TypeScript, React, Node.js, Python, PostgreSQL, AI and LLM integrations.

What they’re looking for
  • 3 to 8 years of full-stack product engineering experience
  • Meaningful time at smaller, fast-growing start-ups, ideally in your most recent role
  • A track record of shipping features end to end and working directly with customers
  • Comfortable working autonomously without structured onboarding or a daily task list
  • A clear, concise communicator
  • BS in Computer Science or a related engineering degree
  • Founder or founding engineer experience is a plus
The Opportunity
  • Real ownership over what gets built, in small teams with genuine autonomy
  • Build AI products for a large, underserved market with real traction
  • Fully remote within the US, working US time zones
  • They’re unable to sponsor visas, so you’ll need permanent US work authorisation
