Job summary

Dynamic Research, Inc. in Torrance, CA is seeking an engineer to drive product development and design of automotive testing equipment.

You will design specialized products, fabricate prototypes, and prepare designs for manufacturing in line with safety and industry standards. You will also develop testing plans to verify durability and performance, serve as the technical contact for customers, and create manuals and technical specifications, while collaborating with safety, manufacturing and QA

Qualifications

• BS or MS degree in Engineering (e.g. Mechanical, Aerospace, Industrial)
• Minimum of 3 years experience in product development and mechanical design
• Ability to manage projects and meet milestones
• Familiarity with CNC mills, routers, and lathes
• Familiarity with vacuum forming
• Experience with 3D printing
• Familiarity with electronics and microcontrollers (Arduino)

Responsibilities

• Develops and designs new products for the automotive testing space.
• Designs specialized products and equipment for the automotive industry and improves existing lines.
• Fabricates prototypes of new products.
• Documents and prepares designs for manufacturing that meet industry standards.
• Develops and executes testing plans to ensure durability, performance, functionality and usability.
• Interfaces with customers as technical point of contact and ensures issues are addressed promptly.
• Creates and maintains documentation including user manuals, technical specs, assembly instructions and troubleshooting guides.
• Collaborates with safety, manufacturing, operations, finance and QA to ensure final products meet all requirements.
• Adheres to health and safety policies and completes required training and PPE usage.

Job description

The position is responsible for ensuring that products meet performance, safety and quality standards. Develops and designs new products for the automotive industry testing space.

Core Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned or requested.

Product Development:

• Follows DRI’s internal Product Development Process, including the safety risk assessment to ensure products are safe for customer use.
• Designs specialized products and equipment for the automotive industry and develops improvements on existing product lines.
• Fabricates prototypes of new products
• Documents and prepares designs for manufacturing that meets industry standards.
• Develops and executes testing plans for the products to ensure durability, performance, functionality, design, usability, and all other requirements are met.

Product Support

• Technical point of contact with the external customers.
• Ensures customers receive quality products that meet their expectations and that customer inquiries issues are addresses promptly.
• Creates and maintains documentation, including User Manuals, Technical Specifications, Assembly Instructions, and troubleshooting guides.
• Works with other engineering staff in defining, designing, and testing products.
• Works with safety, manufacturing, operations, finance, and quality assurance to ensure the final product meets all requirements.

• Adhere to all company health and safety policies and procedures
• Complete required safety training, attending scheduled meetings.
• Using equipment properly, and wearing appropriate PPE as required (face covers, ear plugs, gloves etc.)

What are we looking for?

• BS or MS degree in Engineering (e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Industrial Engineering), Product Design, or Product Development
• Minimum of 3 years experience in product development and mechanical design
• Ability to manage projects and meet development milestones
• Familiarity with a wide variety of shop equipment including CNC mills, routers, and lathes
• Familiarity with vacuum forming
• Experience with 3D printing
• Familiarity with electronics and software for microcontrollers such as Arduinos
