Job summary
SPX Technologies is seeking a Senior Engineer I - Product Development to work across engineering disciplines on complex projects involving product lines, components, controls, and materials.
You will lead design reviews, coordinate internal and external teams, develop project plans, perform tests, and ensure compliance with codes and standards while driving cost-effective new products.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering (required).
- Master's degree in Engineering or 5+ years of work experience considered.
- Has met all educational requirements and standards to be certified as an EIT after FE exam.

As a Senior Engineer I - Product Development, you will be working in a design and development role across engineering disciplines for complex projects across various product lines, components, controls, and materials. Responsibilities include a mix of product design and coordinating teams internally and externally to develop cost-effective new products, directing the work of engineers, technicians, and designers, ensuring integrity and compliance with codes and standards. Additionally, tasks involve software / control logic development, performing tests, technical bid evaluations, expediting vendor processes, and developing project plans. Success in this position requires extensive engineering experience, strong technical and communication skills, and the ability to work independently on complex technical challenges.
This role encourages innovation and continuously improves efficiency of technical support, monitors advances of technology and competition, and supports global and acquisition-related technical issues in areas of expertise.
While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:
- Be creative, develop new designs and solutions to problems.
- Serve as a technical expert and consultant to sales and construction teams, both internally and in the field, as well as customers.
- Assign and review work of technicians, designers, and other engineers.
- Train and mentor new engineering employees
- Perform engineering calculations to validate designs.
- Lead design reviews and act as the primary engineering interface with Manufacturing, Sourcing, Product Management, Sales, and Customer Support.
- Develop project plans, manage projects and tasks to meet schedule.
- Execute project-specific document control.
- Review, approve, and control vendor-supplied engineering documents.
- Provide support to site erection and commissioning teams.
- Develop project-specific operating and maintenance manuals.
- Write engineering specifications for tower lines and components.
- For contractual purposes, verify and provide proof of job completion and meeting specification requirements.
- Sign and approve drawings for new and project specific designs and for drawings that are product standards.
- Troubleshoot, repair, and improve production equipment.
- Conduct product testing during development and post-installation to verify software and data development.
- Witness third-party contractual tests.
- Provide pricing information for new quotes.
We each bring something to the table, and we are looking for someone who has:
- 5+ years of experience
- Experience with design for manufacturing methods
- Experience with solids-based CAD/CAM software
- Experience with SAP ERP Systems
- Experience in AutoCAD, MathCAD, RISA2D, and RISA3D
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint required.
- Experience working with teams in different physical locations.
- Experience with software development and control systems
- Basic understanding of design and application of components for cooling towers.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply the fundamental concepts, practices, and procedures of HVAC equipment design.
- Broad knowledge and application of principles, practices, and procedures of cooling tower design and structural engineering to the completion of difficult assignments.
- Highly creative.
- Strong ability to visualize complex spatial geometry.
- Passionate about product development and persistent and patient enough to continue to strive for solutions to difficult problems.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- Master's degree in Engineering or 5+ years work experience
- Has met all the educational requirements and standards to be certified as an EIT (Engineer in Training) after passing the FE exam
- Onsite office environment, Monday - Friday; Hybrid work schedule available after satisfactory completion of probationary period.
- Willingness to travel at least 20% of the time.
- The position may require working occasionally outside normal work hours.
- Keyboarding/typing.
- Ability to read effectively from a computer screen and/or a paper copy.
- Ability to handle a large volume of work and perform multiples tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively verbally.
