Job summary

Neogen in Lansing, MI is seeking a Product Engineer to apply hands-on microbiology experience to improve commercialized products and support manufacturing and laboratory capabilities. You will design and execute experiments, analyze data, and collaborate across labs, manufacturing, and product teams onsite.

The role emphasizes problem solving, data-driven decision making, and contributing to design specifications while supporting continuous improvement initiatives and product lifecycle

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Microbiology, Biological Sciences, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, or related discipline.
• Hands-on laboratory experience applying microbiological principles in a technical setting.
• Experience developing, executing, and interpreting scientific studies or experiments.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to work onsite and collaborate with laboratory, manufacturing, and cross‑functional teams.
• Two or more years of relevant industry, research, or manufacturing experience.
• Experience with food safety microbiology, diagnostic products, culture-based methods, method development, or verification and validation studies.
• Experience supporting commercialized products or regulated manufacturing operations.
• Experience with statistics, Design of Experiments, trend analysis, or process capability tools.
• Experience with specifications, material qualifications, Lean, Six Sigma, or other continuous improvement methodologies.

Responsibilities

• Develop, execute, and analyze experimental plans to support product improvements, process changes, technical investigations, and verification activities.
• Use microbiological principles, scientific methods, and data analysis to evaluate product and process performance.
• Own defined project workstreams and move technical work from testing through conclusions, recommendations, and implementation support.
• Support material qualifications, manufacturing changes or transfers, product refreshes, and continuity-of-supply projects.
• Contribute data and technical rationale to Design Specification Records, product standards, and material or supply specifications.
• Partner across functions to investigate issues and implement improvements.
• Prepare clear protocols, technical reports, and presentations.
• Support a Lean Six Sigma-oriented continuous improvement culture by using data and structured problem solving to improve quality, service, cost, process capability, and ways of working.
