Job summary

MAHLE is seeking a Product Engineer in Farmington Hills, MI to lead development and optimization of iCAC and EGR components. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, define thermal requirements, and support PPAP while guiding design reviews and BOM creation.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in automotive product development, heat exchanger experience, and DFMEA/DVP&R know-how. Excellent collaboration with Stuttgart and customers is essential in this role.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Science in Engineering (EE or ME preferred but not required).
  • Master of Science in Engineering preferred but not required.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in automotive product development especially in EGR and Charge air coolers preferred.
  • Familiarity/Knowledge on heat exchangers & manufacturing processes preferred.
  • Knowledge of thermodynamics, heat transfer and fluid dynamics.
  • Knowledge of and experience in the facilitation of DFMEA workshops in a project team.
  • Knowledge of creating and maintaining DVP&R

Responsibilities

  • Performs under the direction of the Engineering Manager and as a member of a project team, gives technical leadership for product development and optimization of iCAC and EGR products
  • Lead DAM (Design Acceptance Meeting) and Support and participation PAM (Process Acceptance Meeting)
  • Coordination of concept, design, and release of iCAC & EGR components
  • Define thermal capacities and technical requirements for iCAC and EGR (heat exchangers) cooling components and harmonize with customer needs
  • Support production trials (MBPR/TPR) in accordance with the schedule identified by the project team/customer and achieve customer PPAP
  • Create and execute DVP&R for iCAC & EGR products
  • Perform 1D simulations on heat exchangers
  • Liaison between Stuttgart Engineering and local customers
  • Provide technical input for component level DFMEA and design for assembly workshops
  • Work with the test lab to ensure all test specs are understood and executed accordingly
  • Lead component level design reviews and drawing evaluations to ensure proper application of specifications and GD&T as it relates to interfacing with suppliers and customers
  • Lead and direct component design engineer in the creation of the BOM, 3D models, and 2D drawings
  • Participate in project team, customer, and department meetings
  • Lead, establish and maintain supplier technical communications and open Issue list for assigned components

Your Contribution

As a Product Engineer, you will be part of our EGR, iCAC technical development and acquisition team in NAFTA. You will provide technical leadership for product development and optimization of current and future iCAC and EGR designs, work with the customer in understanding and developing their requirements and harmonizing with MAHLE standards and capabilities to design and develop a suitable product. You will oversee all technical aspects of assigned development project by Product manager, such as Design, Validation, Costing as well as cost reduction/avoidance (iPCO). You will also be working hand in hand with the Program Management team while getting support from Purchasing, Logistics, Preventive Quality, Supplier Quality, and Process Planning.

  • This is a product engineering position to lead and work with all cross functions such as purchasing, quality, program management, and sales to ensure the development program is meeting and keeping all its milestones and all technical deliveries from prototypes to technical presentations.
