Job summary

Gibraltar is seeking a Product Engineer with a strong engineering background in Building Products or Construction to drive ongoing improvement for residential roofing products, including attic ventilation, trims, flashings, and roof drainage.

You’ll collaborate with Product Management, Sales, Customer Service, Operations, and Supply Chain to devise innovative solutions, optimize lines, and grow revenue while upholding safety and quality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Construction Engineering or related field.
  • Up to 3 years in Building Products or Construction industry.
  • Experience with metal stamping and injection molding is a plus.
  • SolidWorks and PDM experience required; MS Office and Adobe PDF skills.
  • Knowledge of electrical components and motors a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead full-lifecycle product development from market research to manufacturing trials and launches.
  • Design, test, and modify products to meet functional requirements and comply with codes and standards.
  • Act as the technical liaison across Product Management, Sales, Customer Service, Operations, and Supply Chain to ensure product success.
  • Maintain accurate product documents and ERP system updates.

Job description

Position Summary

A Product Engineer with a technical background in the Building Products or Construction Industry to drive continuous improvement across the entire lifecycle of residential roofing products, including attic ventilation, trims, flashings, and roof drainage products. You will collaborate with Product Management, Sales, Customer Service, Operations, and Supply Chain to develop innovative solutions, optimize existing lines, and support revenue growth while ensuring safety, quality, and production efficiency.

  • Product Lifecycle Management: Lead full-lifecycle product development, from market research and ideation to manufacturing trials, launch, and ongoing product line simplification.
  • Design & Compliance: Design, test, and modify products to meet functional requirements. Ensure all designs comply with regulatory codes, safety standards, and industry practices. Evaluate overall performance and reliability.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Act as the technical liaison for Product Management, Sales, Customer Service, Operations, and Supply Chain to ensure product success and production viability. Pitch new concepts and scopes to leadership and manage external testing agencies when needed.
  • Documentation & Systems: Maintain accurate product documentation, test documentation, project documentation, and ERP system updates.
Travel

Travel 10% to 20% to visit manufacturing locations, vendors, trade shows, test labs, and job sites.

Education And Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical or Construction Engineering (or related degree/equivalent experience).
  • Experience: Up to 3 years of experience in the Building Products or Construction industry. Manufacturing experience, preferably with metal stamping and injection molding, is a strong plus.
  • Technical Skills: Minimum of 1 year of experience with SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Adobe PDF. Basic understanding of electrical components and motors (both AC and DC powered) to support the development and testing of motorized attic fans. Experience with AutoCAD, DraftSight, and BlueBeam or other drafting software is a plus. Experience with 3D printing and rapid prototyping is a plus.

Physical Requirements

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer or standing and walking on the manufacturing floor.

Work Conditions

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to manufacturing equipment and machinery, forklifts, and pallets. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. The employee is occasionally exposed to extreme hot and cold weather conditions. Personal protective equipment is required in all areas of the production plant.
