Job summary

Clarke Power in Cincinnati is seeking a Product Engineer to design, develop, and support diesel engine fire pump drivers and related systems. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver robust products from concept through production, ensuring compliance with industry standards and customer specifications.

You will create 3D models and drawings, perform analyses, manage projects, and support manufacturing with continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field.
  • 3–5 years of engineering experience in diesel engines, power generation, industrial equipment, or related industries preferred.
  • Experience within product design and manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of diesel engine systems and controls including fuel, cooling, exhaust, and electrical systems.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop diesel engine systems, components, and accessories.
  • Manage engineering aspects of assigned projects from kickoff through production release.
  • Provide technical assistance to Production personnel and resolve production issues.
  • Investigate and resolve field issues and provide support to Customer Support.
  • Ensure compliance with UL, FM, LPCB and other regulatory requirements; lead product validation/testing.

Description

The Product Engineer is responsible for the design, development, configuration, and support of diesel engine fire pump drivers, product enhancements, systems, components, and accessories necessary to support the strategic objectives of the business. This position is pivotal to supporting our Production, Customer Support, Materials Management, Sales, and Quality groups through product knowledge, process improvement, project management, and technical expertise. The Product Engineer works with outside certification agencies and internal cross-functional teams to collaborate on new product releases to the marketplace.

Key Responsibilities
Product Design & Development
  • Design and develop diesel engine systems, components, and accessories.
  • Create and maintain 3D models, assemblies, and engineering drawings.
  • Select and integrate diesel engines, cooling systems, fuel systems, exhaust systems, controls, and ancillary components.
  • Ensure designs meet customer specifications, Company standards, and applicable regulations.
  • Perform engineering calculations, tolerance analyses, and design reviews.
  • Develop specifications and performance requirements to determine designs which can be produced by existing manufacturing or processing facilities and methods.
  • Determine feasibility of designing new or modifying existing engine products, systems, components, or accessories considering costs, available equipment space, time limitations, company planning, and other technical and economic factors.
  • Prepares or directs preparation of product or system layout and detailed drawings and electrical schematics.
  • Directs and coordinates manufacturing or building of prototype products or systems.
  • Assists and collaborates with Production personnel in manufacturing or building production level products or systems.
Project Engineering
  • Manage engineering aspects of assigned projects from project kick-off through production release.
  • Review customer needs and develop or determine technical requirements and solutions.
  • Coordinate activities with Production, Customer Support, Materials Management, Sales, and Quality departments and suppliers.
  • Manage project schedules and engineering deliverables.
  • Prepare and present project status updates to management and CFPP Steering Team leadership.
  • Coordinate, facilitate, and support product launch readiness activities including Production, Customer Support, Materials Management, Sales, Quality, Marketing, and IT department deliverables.
Production Support
  • Provide technical assistance to Production personnel.
  • Resolve production issues and implement corrective steps.
  • Develop and maintain bills of materials (BOMs), routings, and engineering documentation.
  • Support continuous improvement and cost reduction initiatives.
Product and Customer Support
  • Investigate and resolve field issues and customer concerns.
  • Provide technical support to Customer Support.
  • Conduct root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
  • Support reliability improvements.
Compliance & Standards
  • Ensure compliance with UL, FM, LPCB, and other regulatory agency requirements, safety standards, and applicable industry regulations.
  • Lead product validation and verification testing.
  • Maintain engineering documentation in accordance with Company procedures.
  • Define testing and analyze test data and reports to determine if designs meet functional and performance specifications.
Continuous Improvement
  • Identify opportunities for product enhancement and standardization.
  • Participate in value engineering and cost reduction projects.
  • Recommend process improvements to improve engineering efficiency and product quality.
  • Continuously review current processes and procedures, and identify improvement opportunities to reduce waste, rework, and non-value-added activities.

  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make data-driven decisions.

  • Based on business needs, assist, support, and / or perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, or a related field. Demonstrated experience in a similar product engineering role within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • 3 to 5 years of engineering experience in diesel engines, power generation, industrial equipment, mobile equipment, or related industries preferred.
  • Experience within product design and manufacturing environments.
  • Knowledge and understanding of diesel engine systems and controls including fuel, cooling, exhaust, and electrical systems.
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams.
  • Experience with new product development and certification projects.
  • Experience facilitating meetings and driving action item closure.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Comfort and familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, or AutoCAD, 3D Modeling, Desktop and network computer interaction.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority.
  • Excellent communication skills (technical, written and verbal).
  • Superior interpersonal communication skills and relationship building.
  • Familiarity with ERP/ MRP systems, like Made 2 Manage (M2M).
  • Ability to manage time effectively and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and diagrams.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business periodical, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, equipment, and quality standards.
  • Familiarity with health and safety guidelines and compliance standards.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Good report writing skills and proficiency in data analysis tools.
  • Experience with Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, or similar methodologies.
