About the Role

We are seeking a technically strong, customer-focused, and highly motivated Product Engineer to manage and support the company's growing portfolio of advanced technology products for the aerospace, space, and defense industries. The Product Engineer will serve as a key technical interface between IDEAS-TEK's engineering teams, customers, and business development activities. This individual will develop a deep understanding of the company's products and their applications and will be responsible for communicating product capabilities through technical documentation, demonstrations, presentations, trade shows, customer meetings, and responses to technical inquiries.

This position requires a combination of strong engineering fundamentals, excellent communication skills, and the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear information for customers and other stakeholders.

Product Engineering and Technical support
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive technical understanding of IDEAS-TEK products, technologies, capabilities, and applications.
  • Serve as a technical subject matter resource for the company’s product portfolio.
  • Work closely with engineering teams to understand product architecture, functionality, interfaces, specifications, performance, limitations, and planned enhancements.
  • Support products throughout their lifecycle, from product introduction and customer evaluation through deployment and ongoing support.
  • Assist engineering and management with defining product requirements and identifying improvements based on customer and market feedback.
  • Coordinate with engineering teams to ensure product information and specifications remain accurate and current.
  • Support product testing, evaluation, configuration, and troubleshooting as required.
  • Assist customers with product integration questions and communicate technical issues to the appropriate engineering teams.
  • Maintain familiarity with competing technologies and emerging developments relevant to the company’s products.
Technical Documentation
  • Create, maintain, and improve technical documentation for IDEAS-TEK products.
  • Develop product data sheets, specifications, user guides, application notes, technical manuals, integration guides, and other customer-facing documentation.
  • Work with engineering teams to convert complex engineering information into accurate, understandable, and professionally presented technical material.
  • Maintain product specifications, configuration information, revision histories, and supporting documentation.
  • Develop technical diagrams, block diagrams, system descriptions, and other materials needed to communicate product capabilities.
  • Ensure customer-facing technical information is accurate, consistent, and appropriately controlled.
  • Support the preparation of technical content for proposals, Requests for Information (RFIs), Requests for Proposals (RFPs), and other customer requests.
Product Demonstration and Technical Engagement
  • Plan, prepare, and conduct technical demonstrations of IDEAS-TEK products.
  • Develop demonstration configurations and support materials that effectively communicate product capabilities and customer benefits.
  • Represent IDEAS-TEK as a technical resource during customer meetings, presentations, demonstrations, and technical discussions.
  • Respond to customer requests for technical product information in coordination with engineering and company leadership.
  • Participate in technical discussions with customers to understand their requirements, applications, system architectures, and integration needs.
  • Translate customer requirements into actionable technical information for internal engineering teams.
  • Assist customers in identifying appropriate IDEAS-TEK products and configurations for their applications.
  • Provide technical follow-up after customer meetings, demonstrations, and product inquiries.
  • Build and maintain strong technical relationships with customers and industry partners.
Tradeshows and Industry Representation
  • Represent IDEAS-TEK at aerospace, space, defense, and technology trade shows, conferences, exhibitions, and customer events.
  • Demonstrate company products and explain their technical capabilities to prospective customers, partners, and other industry representatives.
  • Prepare products, demonstration equipment, technical materials, presentations, and supporting documentation for trade shows and industry events.
  • Engage with prospective customers to understand their technical needs and identify potential applications for IDEAS-TEK products.
  • Support business development personnel during customer meetings and industry events by providing technical expertise.
  • Document and communicate relevant customer feedback, technical requirements, market trends, and competitive information identified during trade shows and customer interactions.
  • Travel as required to support customer meetings, product demonstrations, trade shows, and other business activities.
Product and Business Development Support
  • Work closely with engineering, management, and business development teams to support product strategy and customer engagement.
  • Provide technical input for proposals, quotations, Statements of Work, RFIs, RFPs, and other business development activities.
  • Assist in evaluating customer requirements and determining whether existing products or product modifications can satisfy those requirements.
  • Help identify new product opportunities based on customer interactions and industry trends.
  • Collect and organize customer feedback to support future product development and product roadmap decisions.
  • Develop presentations and other technical materials for customer and partner engagements.
  • Support internal product training to ensure relevant personnel understand product capabilities, applications, and differentiators.
Requirements
Required Qualifications
  • A bachelor’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related engineering or technical discipline is preferred. A combination of relevant education and significant technical industry experience may be considered in place of a degree.
  • Experience in the aerospace, space, defense, or related high-reliability technology industry is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a product engineering, applications engineering, systems engineering, field applications engineering, or similar customer-facing technical role is highly desirable.
  • Experience creating engineering drawings with GD&T.
  • Understanding of mechanical design, materials, manufacturing processes, and structural mechanics.
  • Experience designing mechanical assemblies and working with machined, sheet-metal, and/or additive-manufactured components.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to travel periodically within the United States to support customer meetings, demonstrations, trade shows, and conferences.
  • Ability to professionally represent IDEAS-TEK when interacting with customers, government organizations, industry partners, and prospective customers.
  • Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced small-business environment where responsibilities may span engineering, product management, customer support, and business development.
  • Must be able to handle proprietary and sensitive technical information appropriately.
Required Skills
  • Strong technical foundation in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, embedded systems, digital electronics, or related disciplines.
  • Understanding of embedded computing systems, digital electronics, processors, FPGAs, interfaces, communications, and/or related technologies.
  • Ability to understand complex engineering systems and communicate their functionality clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Strong verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to confidently conduct technical product demonstrations and customer presentations.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with engineers, program managers, customers, government representatives, and business development personnel.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical specifications, block diagrams, interface documentation, schematics, and other engineering documentation.
