Job summary

Fort Wayne Metals is hiring a Product Development Technician for the Nitinol sheet & strip program on the 2nd shift. The role focuses on developing, refining, and validating new products and processes to meet internal and customer specifications.

You will plan, manufacture, and test prototypes, ensuring they align with quality systems. You will collaborate with internal teams to deliver innovative solutions, document development activities, and assist in transferring products to production with

• Requires coursework toward technical or engineering curriculum.
• 1-2 years' experience in manufacturing methods/technologies.

Responsibilities

• Innovate and validate new products and processes per FortWayne Metals Quality Systems.
• Collaborate with internal departments to deliver innovative solutions for customer needs.
• Develop and execute product development protocols and reports including testing and characterization.
• Engage with customers to determine needs and support quotes during development.
• Document and compile reports to capture development activities for new products/processes.
• Coordinate transfer of new products to production with training for Process Engineers/Technicians.
• Review and provide feedback to CSAs and Product Managers on customer specifications.
• Perform other duties as requested by management.

Overview

The Product Development Technician will provide technical support through the development, refinement, and job execution of new products and processes. They will plan, manufacture and test prototypes to meet internal/customer specified requirements

Education & Experience Requirements

• Requires college coursework towards technical or engineering curriculum or equivalent demonstrated knowledge, skills, and abilities.
• 1-2 years' experience in manufacturing methods/technologies; preferably supports respected department's needs.

Job Responsibilities

• Responsible for the innovation and validation of new products and processes while complying with the product realization requirements of FortWayne Metals (FWM) Quality Systems and accreditations.
• Work closely with internal departments to deliver innovative solutions to customer's novel needs.
• Develop and execute product development protocols and reports including testing needs and full functional characterization of products.
• Engage with customers to determine the needs, specifications, development options and support sales in quotes during the development of new products.
• Document and compile reports to capture the development activities for new products/processes.
• Coordinate the transfer of new products to production, providing appropriate documents, such as training to Process Engineers, Process Technicians, or Operators, as needed.
• Review and provide feedback to FWM Customer Service Associates (CSAs) and Product Managers regarding customer specifications.
• Perform other duties as requested by management.

Working Conditions & Physical Requirements

• Fast paced production environment.
• Exposure to WDO and WDO 10 LV (oils), hydrogen, nitrogen, sulfuric acid solution (50% acid/50% water) Steris (industrial soap), and time spent working around machinery.
• Travel between facilities required. Travel approximately 5% of the time.
• Must be able to access all areas of operation, including second floors.
• Occasional lifting up to 30 lbs.
• Pulling, pushing, squatting intermittently, and standing for long periods of time; sitting at a computer for an extended time, on occasion.
