Purpose:

Responsible for supporting the Product Development department in its development and quality duties. The selected candidate will participate in new formula development projects in all personal care categories. This position requires an extremely organized individual with a strong work ethic.

This manager position is located in West Hollywood, California. This role will be essential to the department's smooth operation with Innovation and Product Management and to achieving its goals, as well as supporting the company's long-term growth.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform daily tasks to ensure the progression and coordination of the department’s formula development, production and quality steps.
  • Keep various documents and tracker spreadsheets organized and up to date.
  • Help review incoming formula samples for performance and adherence to PDR.
  • Document formula approvals internally and send official approvals with appropriate test plans, to partnering contract manufacturers.
  • Monitor and evaluate product quality throughout the pilot and production processes.
  • Partner with sourcing team to manage final component and functionality tests.
  • Assist with organizing, developing and implementing QA procedures and protocols.
  • Collaborate with contract manufacturers and production teams to identify and resolve quality issues.
  • Lead the investigation and root cause analysis of product defects and customer complaints and provide updates to cross functional teams.
  • Review and manage all incoming production BME’s.
  • Train and utilize Share Point Project File Software and Google Drive.
  • Stay informed about industry regulations and trends related to quality assurance in beauty products.
  • Work with regulatory consultants to acquire all formula, raw material and compliance documentation for approved formulas and record internally.
  • Work with regulatory consultants on final FDA OTC copy and testing requirements as needed.
  • Review Master Copy Worksheets and routing artwork files for accuracy and compliance, as needed.
  • Work with regulatory to register products with MoCRA, WERCs, and EU/UK/CAN, as needed.
  • Maintain product dossiers/PIF folders. Ensure product information is always up-to-date and accurate to prepare for a transaction.
  • Review test results for new products and manage timelines for testing and final reports.
  • Address any stability and/or compatibility issues with the appropriate CM for formula adjustments and additional monitoring.
  • Communicate formula development testing status and any product issues to the cross-functional teams when needed to adjust timing for samples, components, overall launch information.
  • Coordinate product requirements with third party regulatory consultant as needed.
  • Attend Brand NPD Meetings and participate in formula updates and launch details.
Ability to:
  • Understand & communicate brand identity and customer target to development partners.
  • Participate in weekly conference calls with contract manufacturers to facilitate formula development and related product needs. Lead calls when needed.
  • Attend Internal Brand Cross Functional NPD Meetings.
  • Approve pre-bulk and pilot/full batch production.
  • Attend trade shows as needed and review industry publications.
  • Plan, prioritize tasks and direct while retaining focus on big picture goals.
  • Maintain a consistent organized work environment and ongoing motivation to reach objectives under fast-paced demanding circumstances.
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Education/Experience:

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from a four-year college/university.

Five+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
