The Role

This engineering management role leads the customer RMA debug team. You will coordinate cross-functional efforts to rapidly diagnose, root-cause, and resolve customer-returned (RMA) failures. The team uses ATE and SLT test platforms, failure analysis, debug infrastructure, and data-driven insights to identify silicon, test, package, and system-level issues affecting product quality in high-volume manufacturing and customer environments.

The team develops and deploys debug methodologies, analytics, and diagnostic tools to isolate failure mechanisms, correlate findings across lab, manufacturing, and customer platforms, and verify alignment with product specifications. It also drives containment, corrective actions, and feedback into design, test, and manufacturing to prevent recurrence and improve overall product quality.

This role serves as a key liaison with internal teams—including design, product engineering, test engineering, quality, and manufacturing—and with external customers to communicate status, drive resolution, and shape product and process improvements based on field-return learnings.

The Person

The ideal candidate will be capable of communicating problems, solutions, and project status up to the executive level. You will provide technical supervision or mentoring to junior engineers and influence others as a technical leader. You have the capability assuming the consultative or leadership responsibilities for large projects or product development initiatives, while dealing with internal and external groups on behalf of the group or project. This role allows the opportunity to influence technical decisions that have a significant impact on multiple products or the product line.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leads a team responsible for customer RMA debug and failure resolution activities.
  • Coordinates cross-functional teams to identify root causes and drive timely resolution of product issues.
  • Oversees the development and application of debug methods, tools, and analytics to support product quality and reliability.
  • Partners with internal stakeholders and external customers to communicate progress, drive corrective actions, and support continuous improvement.
  • Receives assignments as objectives, including goals and the process for achieving them.
  • Recommends updates to unit or sub-unit policies.
  • Communicates status to management and executive staff.
  • Influences technical decisions that affect the final product.
  • Champions key technical decisions.
  • Management reviews performance against objectives.
  • Directly supervises professional individual contributors and skilled support staff, such as technicians and support personnel.
  • Provides direction to individual contributors within established policies and management guidance.
  • Administers company policies that directly affect team members.
  • Holds weekly 1:1 meetings with individual contributors to provide feedback and coaching.
  • Sets clear team goals and responsibilities.
  • Serves as an advisor to a unit or sub-units and may step in as needed to meet schedules and resolve issues.
  • Identifies talent gaps and recruits diverse candidates internally and externally.
  • Develops and maintains effective working relationships with other departments.
  • Collaborates on or takes ownership of a specific project or a defined portion of a larger project or process.
Preferred Experience
  • Product development, preferably in semiconductors.
  • Experience managing a team and projects.
  • Developing tests, patterns/vectors, timing, and diagnostics on Automated Test Equipment
  • XP, AGILE, Scrum, or Kanban as Scrum Master or Product Owner.
  • Statistical analysis experience to determine population mean and outliers.
  • Pareto analysis experience to drive a debug process.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to work with geographically distributed product engineering teams.
  • Experience presenting to Director level management internally.
  • Debug experience (ATE, SLT or platform)
  • Experience with revision control (GIT, SVN, CVS, RCS or similar).
  • Debug experience in hardware, software, device, and/or manufacturing domains.
  • C++, Java, C, or C#.S
  • Scripting language (Perl, Ruby, shell script, or similar).
  • Experience with logic analyzers, voltmeters, oscilloscopes, and other debug tools.
  • Linux or Unix Operating Systems.
  • Microsoft standard apps (i.e. Office), Microsoft Windows Operating Systems.
Academic Credentials
  • B.S. or M.S. degree and engineering and experience managing a team.
