Job description

Printpack is seeking qualified candidates to fill the position of a Product Development Engineer I or II within our Rigid Division. The level will be determined based on the successful candidate's qualifications.

This position is located in Williamsburg, VA, and reports to the Product Development Manager for the Rigid Division. Travel is estimated at approximately 30%.

Responsibilities include:
  1. Coordinating directly with customers, sales, marketing, manufacturing, and operations planning to ensure a rapid and successful commercialization of new products.
  2. Managing projects related to new product development.
  3. Designing commercial specifications to be fit-for-use and fit-for-make; gathering and analyzing data using statistical techniques.
  4. Leading customer technical calls/visits and manufacturing/customer trials to expedite commercialization.
  5. Leading divisional initiatives on new converting and raw material technology, identifying opportunities for innovative growth, and disseminating information within the organization.
  6. Supporting manufacturing with on-site support during new product development trials.
  7. Proactively identifying end-user value and packaging features.
  8. Identifying cost savings opportunities proactively.
Requirements:
  • Four-year degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, Material/Packaging Science, or equivalent work experience.
  • Prior experience in the packaging industry is preferred.
  • Experience with PET/PE/PS/PP films, sheet, adhesives, extrusion, inks is a plus.
  • Experience with trim in place, remote trim thermoforming, extrusion blow molding, injection molding, or other rigid packaging processes is a plus.
  • Experience in product development or process engineering, especially managing complex projects with customer interaction, is preferred.
  • PMP training or certification is a plus.
  • Travel commitment of approximately 30%.
