Role Description

The Product Development Engineer is a full-time, on-site role based in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. This role is responsible for leading and supporting the design and development of new communication products, from concept through production. Daily activities include collaborating with cross-functional teams, creating and reviewing mechanical designs, performing feasibility studies, and contributing to R&D initiatives to improve existing products and introduce new features. The engineer will prepare technical documentation, participate in prototype testing and validation, and work closely with manufacturing and suppliers to ensure product quality, reliability, and regulatory compliance. The role also involves analyzing performance data, identifying design improvements, and helping drive continuous innovation aligned with Midland’s safety and communication standards.

Qualifications
  • Strong foundation in Mechanical Engineering and Product Design, with the ability to translate user needs into functional, manufacturable products.
  • Experience in Product Development and Research and Development (R&D), including concept generation, prototyping, testing, and design iteration.
  • Demonstrated Analytical Skills for evaluating product performance, troubleshooting issues, and making data-informed design decisions.
  • Familiarity with communication or electronic devices, including basic knowledge of RF, electronics, or embedded systems, is beneficial.
  • Proficiency with CAD software and relevant engineering tools for mechanical design and modeling.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline; advanced degrees or professional certifications are a plus.
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities to work with engineering, manufacturing, marketing, and external partners.
  • Detail-oriented mindset, strong organizational skills, and capacity to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment.
