Job summary

Global Power Components in Milwaukee, WI is seeking a Product Development Engineer to design and bring electrical power distribution products from concept through production release. Responsibilities

• Develop new electrical power distribution products from concept through production release.

• Create and maintain engineering documentation, bills of material, and product specifications.
• Drive product cost reduction, manufacturability, reliability, and scalability improvements.

• Develop documentation required for product approvals and certifications.
• Support compliance with applicable UL, IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, and customer requirements.
• Participate in validation testing and design verification activities.
• Work closely with manufacturing to ensure designs are optimized for production.
• Support prototype builds, pilot builds, and new product introductions.
• Collaborate on automation, tooling, and process improvements.
• Provide technical support during product launch activities.

Position Summary Global Power Components is seeking a Product Development Engineer to support the growth of our Electrical Equipment Solutions business. This role will be responsible for developing new products, supporting certification activities, and partnering with manufacturing to bring new technologies and products into production. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys creating products from the ground up and wants to play a key role in shaping the future of a rapidly growing business.

Key Responsibilities

Product Development

• Develop new electrical power distribution products from concept through production release.
• Create electrical and mechanical product designs using CAD and engineering design tools.
• Develop standard product architectures, reusable design platforms, and configurable product structures.
• Create and maintain engineering documentation, bills of material, and product specifications.
• Drive product cost reduction, manufacturability, reliability, and scalability improvements.

Certification and Compliance

• Coordinate testing and certification activities with UL and other agencies.
• Develop documentation required for product approvals and certifications.
• Support compliance with applicable UL, IEEE, ANSI, NEMA, and customer requirements.
• Participate in validation testing and design verification activities.

Engineering Tools and Product Documentation

• Support and refine engineering standards, design guides, and best practices as products are developed.
• Develop and refine reusable product libraries, design templates, and technical documentation.
• Support the effective use and continuous improvement of engineering tools, CAD systems, and product data management processes.
• Optimize product designs and documentation to support efficient manufacturing and product growth.

Manufacturing Integration

• Work closely with manufacturing to ensure designs are optimized for production.
• Support prototype builds, pilot builds, and new product introductions.
• Collaborate on automation, tooling, and process improvements.
• Provide technical support during product launch activities.

Required Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of experience in product design, product engineering, or new product development.
• Experience with CAD systems and engineering documentation.
• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes and design-for-manufacturing principles.
• Ability to manage technical projects from concept through implementation.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with power distribution equipment, switchboards, switchgear, motor control centers, panelboards, bus systems, or related electrical equipment.
• Experience working with UL certification programs.
• Knowledge of UL 891, UL 1558, UL 508A, IEEE, ANSI, or NEMA standards.
• Experience with EPLAN, AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks, or equivalent engineering software.
• Experience supporting product validation and certification testing.
