Job description

As the Chemist, you will lead new developments in polymeric materials for Aerospace Transparencies. You will use your experience to build new developments to expand PPG's Aerospace Transparency capabilities. If you are passionate about developing technologies, then this may be the opportunity for you! You will report to the relevant supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Develop new materials, substitute materials, and new processes for use in transparency manufacturing and operations.
  2. Provide subject domain expertise on materials and processes failures.
  3. Implement multiple technology developments from development, scale-up, and support in manufacturing.
  4. Perform experiments to develop new products for urethanes, polymers, composites, and other business-driven needs.
  5. Create material and application process specifications.
  6. Communicate technical advice to internal and external customers.
  7. Remain current on new developments in relevant scientific fields.
  8. Provide leadership on root cause analysis for production issues encountered in scale-up and manufacturing.
  9. Work with team members across different locations and backgrounds.
  10. Maintain good record-keeping practices and submit reports timely.
  11. Utilize tools such as DOE, Capability Analysis, ANOVA for problem solving or development improvements.
  12. Introduce improvements and product developments independently or with teams, with potential benefits to the company.
  13. Participate actively in 6S (organization and safety) activities.
  14. Follow all procedures and safety requirements.
Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Materials, Polymers, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or equivalent.
  2. At least 1 year of experience with transparent materials, glass, ceramics, forming, and characterization.
  3. Experience with resin formulation development and launch or publication.
  4. Experience with composite resin chemistry development and launch or publication.
  5. Ability to communicate effectively with a broad audience, including technical, management, and production teams.
