Job summary

Cameron Smith & Associates, Inc. is seeking a Product Developer to join our growing team and bring innovative food products from concept to commercialization.

The role involves hands-on formulation work, prototyping, and close collaboration with customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams. Travel to Canada is significant during the first 6–12 months as you ramp up, with travel expected to become more manageable once established.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Food Science, Microbiology, Biology, or a related scientific field.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of food labeling legislation, including nutritional and packaging requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and refine prototype formulations for customer review and approval
  • Prepare samples and prototypes for internal and customer evaluations
  • Partner with QA, QC, Food Safety, Sales, and other teams to support successful commercialization
  • Provide formulation and cost information for new product setup and P&L development
  • Support supplier and raw material evaluation
  • Participate in trials and first production runs, troubleshooting scale-up challenges
  • Manage project documentation, timelines, and trackers
  • Coordinate pre-trial, post-trial, and first production meetings
  • Support customer presentations, artwork reviews, shelf-life studies, and cost-saving initiatives

Job description

We are seeking a Product Developer to join a growing team and play a key role in bringing innovative food products from concept to commercialization. This is an excellent opportunity for a food science professional who enjoys working hands-on with formulations, prototypes, customers, suppliers, and cross-functional teams.

This role will involve significant travel to Canada during the first 6–12 months, particularly as you get up to speed with the product development process, team, and production environment. Candidates should be comfortable with frequent travel during this initial period, with the expectation that travel will become more manageable once the role is fully established.
