Job summary

Idea Nuova in New York is seeking a creative Product Designer — Hardlines to design and develop trend-right products across lighting, wall art, home décor, and storage. This hands-on role translates trends and customer needs into retail-ready products, collaborating with Product Development, Sales, Sourcing, and overseas factories from concept to production.

You will build cohesive product assortments, create CADs, renderings, and technical drawings, and review samples for fit, finish, and cost.

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of product design experience in hardlines, home décor, lighting, storage, or related consumer products.
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating commercially relevant product design and development.
  • Experience designing 3D products, with a strong understanding of materials, construction, scale, and manufacturing.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop; experience with CAD, 3D modeling, or rendering software strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Design products across hardline home categories including table and floor lamps, wall décor and art, decorative accessories, and storage & organization.
  • Develop original product concepts, collections, color palettes, materials, finishes, and surface treatments.
  • Create detailed CADs, renderings, technical drawings, specifications, and presentation materials.
  • Build cohesive product assortments tailored to retailer, consumer, and price-point needs.
  • Partner with Product Development and overseas factories to translate concepts into manufacturable products.
  • Review prototypes and samples, providing clear feedback on construction, color, materials, scale, and overall design.
  • Maintain design intent throughout the development and production process.
  • Research emerging trends across home décor, lighting, color, materials, and consumer lifestyles.
  • Conduct competitive shopping and identify whitespace opportunities within key retail accounts.
  • Translate high-level trends into commercially viable products appropriate for mass-market retail.
  • Understand competitive price points and design products with cost and value in mind.
  • Partner with Product Development, Sales, Sourcing, and Packaging throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Create customer-specific concepts and assortments for major retail accounts.
  • Prepare compelling trend boards, product presentations, and line review materials.
  • Manage multiple projects, categories, and retailer deadlines simultaneously.

Role Overview

Idea Nuova is seeking a creative and commercially minded Product Designer — Hardlines to design and develop trend-right products across lighting, wall art, home décor, and storage & organization. This is a hands‑on design role for someone who can translate trends and customer needs into innovative, retail‑ready products. The designer will work closely with Product Development, Sales, Sourcing, and overseas factories from initial concept through final production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Excellent organization, communication, and presentation skills
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast‑paced environment
  • Experience designing for major retailers is strongly preferred

Additional Requirements

  • Occasional domestic and international travel as needed for factory visits, vendor meetings, trade shows, market weeks, and showroom set‑up
