Job summary

Chess.com is seeking a product designer for Connect to craft polished experiences across web, iOS, and Android for millions of players worldwide. You'll collaborate with Product, Engineering, and other designers to shape Home, Profile, Notifications, Widgets, Friends, Messages, and more.

The role emphasizes problem definition through implementation, leveraging our design system, and prototyping with AI tools like Cursor and Claude in a fully remote, globally distributed team.

Qualifications

• 2-3 years of product designer experience on consumer-facing products or games.
• Portfolio showing polished UI design for web and mobile with personal contribution.
• Strong UI fundamentals: typography, color, layout, hierarchy, alignment, contrast, interactivity.
• Experience with an established design system using tokens, components, patterns.
• Familiarity with frontend development and how design translates to code.
• Experience using AI-assisted tools like Cursor and Claude for prototyping.
• Strong written and verbal communication in a remote, distributed team.

Responsibilities

• Design polished interfaces for Chess.com apps across web, iOS, and Android.
• Own projects from problem definition through implementation with design-to-code alignment.
• Collaborate with Product Designers, PMs, Engineers, and stakeholders to define requirements.
• Use Chess.com design patterns and design system to create responsive, engaging experiences.
• Create and iterate prototypes to communicate ideas quickly and clearly.
• Present work with clear rationale, user insights, and product context.
• Contribute proactively in a Slack-heavy remote environment and offer constructive feedback.
