As a Product Designer on the Discovery Team at Whatnot, you’ll play a key role in helping users find the products they love through features like Search, Ranking, Content Discovery, and more. You’ll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, product management, and data science, to design solutions that enhance the shopping journey and personalize each user’s experience. Your work will directly impact how people interact with and navigate Whatnot’s platform, making it easier and more enjoyable for them to discover products, live shows, and sellers that align with their interests. Responsibilities include: User-Centered Design for Discovery by designing user-centric solutions that make it easier and more enjoyable for users to discover products, creators, and live shows that match their interests and needs; Data-Driven Design by partnering with Data Science and Engineering teams to leverage user insights and behavioral data, iterating on designs based on data findings to improve engagement and discovery outcomes; Cross-Functional Collaboration by working closely with Product, Engineering, and Marketing teams to ensure alignment on business goals, technical feasibility, and the user journey; End-to-End Design Process by leading the design lifecycle from research and ideation to prototyping, testing, and final execution; and maintaining and evolving the Design System to ensure a cohesive look and feel across the Discovery team’s features while pushing for innovative design approaches within Whatnot’s visual language. Team members in this role are required to be within commuting distance of the San Francisco, CA, Los Angeles, CA, or New York, NY hubs. Requirements include 5+ years of product design experience with a proven track record of driving growth through design initiatives, a strong portfolio, expertise in design and prototyping tools (e.g. Figma, Adobe Creative Suite), deep understanding of user experience design principles and methodologies, excellent communication and collaboration skills, and familiarity with e-commerce with content-driven discovery. Understanding of Personalization and Ranking Algorithms is a nice-to-have.
