Job summary

Spin Master in Wilton, CT, onsite, seeks an experienced Industrial/Product Designer to take concepts through production for children’s products. You will develop a wide range of materials-driven designs and render concepts for management approval.

You’ll collaborate with Brand, Content, Licensing, Packaging, Engineering and QA to ensure manufacturability, cost targets, and safety. A BFA and toy-industry experience are preferred, with SolidWorks, KeyShot, Illustrator and Photoshop proficiency; a

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree (BFA) in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field.
  • Professional product design experience within consumer products/toy industry, with infant category preferred.
  • Technical drawing and sketching expertise for quick concept communication.
  • Advanced knowledge of materials and manufacturing, emphasis on wood and plastics.
  • Understanding of design for manufacturing, cost drivers, tooling, and capabilities.
  • 3D CAD modeling using SolidWorks and rendering with KeyShot.
  • Proficiency in 2D design platforms including Illustrator and Photoshop.
  • Professional portfolio demonstrating balance of aesthetics, technical drawing, and development.

Responsibilities

  • Develop a wide range of original children’s products from concept to production.
  • Translate trends and briefs into market-viable product concepts.
  • Create 2D/3D specs accounting for cost, ergonomics, safety, and manufacturing.
  • Build prototypes using workshop tools and 3D printers.
  • Collaborate with Brand, Content, Licensing, Packaging, Engineering, and QA teams.
  • Review manufacturing drawings and overseas prototypes.

Job Description

What will you work on? Based onsite in Wilton, CT, you will develop a wide range of original children’s products that deliver on our mission while driving incremental revenue growth. You will take products from initial concept through to final production, collaborating closely with Brand, Content, Licensing, Packaging, Engineering, and Quality Assurance teams.

How will you create impact?
  • Develop innovative children’s products utilizing a wide range of materials including wood, plastic, metal, and fabric
  • Translate consumer trends, market insights, and marketing briefs into unique, market-viable product concepts
  • Render and sketch product designs rapidly to present concepts for management approval
  • Generate accurate 2D and 3D product specifications and drawings that account for cost, ergonomics, safety, and manufacturing constraints
  • Build physical prototypes utilizing workshop tools and 3D printers to test design concepts
  • Collaborate with the Content team to integrate graphic, editorial, and illustrative assets onto products
  • Partner with Packaging and Structural Packaging teams to define product layout and overall packaging dimensions
  • Review and provide technical feedback on manufacturing drawings and overseas prototypes
  • Maintain constant communication with cross-functional creative and development partners throughout the entire design lifecycle
What are your skills and experience?
  • Undergraduate degree (BFA) in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related field
  • Professional product design experience within the consumer products or toy industry, with preferred experience in the infant category
  • Technical drawing and sketching expertise with the ability to quickly communicate product concepts
  • Advanced knowledge of materials and manufacturing processes, with specific emphasis on wood and plastics
  • Complete understanding of design for manufacturing, including cost drivers, capabilities, and tooling limitations
  • Expertise in 3D CAD modeling using SolidWorks and digital rendering using KeyShot
  • Proficiency in 2D design platforms including Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop
  • A professional portfolio demonstrating a strong balance of aesthetic form, technical drawing accuracy, and structural product development

The anticipated pay range for candidates who will work in Connecticut is $68,200 to $90,900 Per Annum. The offered pay to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to years of experience within the job, years of experience within the required industry, education, etc. Spin Master Inc. is a multi-state employer, and this salary range may not reflect positions that work only in other states.
