Job summary

Global Sports Jobs Limited is offering a newsroom internship with The Athletic for a 12-week period from June 2027 to August 2027. The role can be completed remotely or from New York City, embedded on the Product Design team to gain exposure to all stages of product development and design.

The programme aims to nurture the industry’s next stars and help shape the company’s coverage, while supporting its goal of being the top destination for sports news worldwide.

Qualifications

• Open to undergraduate students, ideally in their junior or senior year; all undergraduates and postgraduates are encouraged to apply.
• Ability to work a 30 to 40 hour work week.
• Experience designing and working in Figma.
• Flexibility and the ability to adapt to fast-paced work environments where needs and priorities can change quickly.
• Deep knowledge of and a passion for sports.

Responsibilities

• Work with product managers to ideate on design solutions for defined business problems and goals.
• Develop designs and prototypes at various levels of fidelity to communicate ideas and desired user experiences.
• Work alongside the research team as needed.
• Create high-quality, detailed deliverables to hand off to engineers.
• Work alongside the engineering team to ensure designs are built to spec and to identify any edge cases that need to be addressed.
• Participate in product design team meetings and design critiques.

About the Role

The Athletic is accepting applications for its Leon H. Carter newsroom internship, a 12-week programme running from June 2027 to August 2027 that can be undertaken remotely or based in New York City. The intern will be embedded on the Product Design team, gaining exposure to every facet of the product development and design process. The internship programme aims to attract and develop the industry's next stars, and the intern will help shape the company's most informative coverage while advancing its goal of being the top destination for sports news around the world.

Key Responsibilities

• Candidates based in New York City have the option of working on-site in the New York office.

Salary

• $25.00 USD per hour
