Job summary

Luxottica in Town of Italy is looking for a Product Design Engineer Lead to join our R&D Department. The role requires developing complex mechanical solutions, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and managing a team of engineers.

Ideal candidates will have at least 5 years of experience in mechanical design and a strong background in Injection molding and DFM. The position offers flexible working conditions up to 50% depending on the role.

Your role

We are looking for a Product Design Engineer Lead who will join our R&D Department.

Main responsibilities

• Develop and act as reference for the development of complex mechanical solutions as a member of a multi-disciplinary team


• Ideate, design, build, test, and refine prototypes and characterization test systems


• Push state-of-the-art technologies and approaches to solve complex mechanical problems


• Work across the full product development cycle, especially from idea, to concept definition and to product finalization


• Collaborate closely with industrial designers, UX team and quality.


• Travel to and support engineering builds and vendor visits

Main requirements

• Educational Background in Mechanical Engineering/Industrial Design


• Knowledge and Experience of Parametric 3D Cad Software, better if Creo software


• Knowledge and Experience on PDM, better if Windchill system


• Knowledge on design and process of Injection molding


• 5+ years of industry experience in mechanical design or in mold Design in med-tech or electronic industry


• Experience in Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), statistical tolerance analysis techniques, functional dimensioning, geometric tolerancing, and 3D/2D CAD


• Knowledge of design and simulation tools, prototyping tools, manufacturing technologies and materials.


• Working knowledge in material properties, such as plastics, metal, adhesive, glass, etc.


• Experience building relationships and collaborating with cross-functional teams.


• Experience operating autonomously across multiple teams.


• High level of organizational skills


• Scientific approach and great problem-solving skills


• Ability to operate in dynamic, fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.


• Previous experience in Consumer Electronics Product Development is greatly appreciated.


• Experience with Office 365


• Experience in managing a team of R&D Product Design Engineer


• 5+ year of field experience
