Job summary

Gentex Optics, part of EssilorLuxottica, is seeking a Sr. Automation Engineer to shape eyewear assembly automation in its Dudley, MA facility.

You will lead multi-phase projects from planning to commissioning, designing PLC/HMI/robotics, and integrating assembly stations with 6-axis handling devices. Responsibilities include diagnosing issues, developing technical documentation, and collaborating across manufacturing disciplines to improve safety, quality, productivity, and cost.

Qualifications

• BS degree in Engineering with 7+ years of experience.
• Experience in high-volume production, with emphasis on ergonomic design, yield improvement, labor & cost reduction.
• Experience with electromechanical systems & automating assembly processes.
• Proficient in PLC programming (Ladder Logic and Structured Text) & HMI development.
• 6-Axis robotics programming/integration experience.
• Excellent conceptual, analytical, & problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to coordinate & complete multiple tasks under minimal supervision.
• Understanding of Sensors, Robotics, Complex Mechanical designs & controls for automated systems.
• Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling (SOLIDWORKS preferred).
• Strong project management skills with ability to create technical documentation.

Responsibilities

• Lead design for medium-large projects that support new product or technology introductions by performing engineering assessments, implementing automation system configuration changes & supporting engineering runs.
• Devise new approaches to problems through adaptations/modifications of automation technical principles.
• Work with multiple disciplines, including manufacturing, process engineering, maintenance, & quality assurance to manage portfolio of projects.
• Diagnose/troubleshoot equipment issues.
• Create automation & machine design requirements including 3D drawing design, wiring, programming, safety features, & sourcing.
• Detail control schemes with wiring and system drawings for automation projects.
• Design PLC/HMI/Robotics (programming & creation of technical documents such as user requirements, functional specifications, & design specifications).
• Troubleshoot & diagnose design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies; proactively recommend revisions and/or improvements.
• Help manufacturing departments succeed through easy-to-use tooling, monitoring, and automation that improve safety, quality, productivity, delivery & cost.
• Engage in project planning to identify automation opportunities.
• Prepare cost estimates and written technical proposals.
• Generate network communication protocols for control equipment.
• Develop mechanical/electronic controls integrating assembly stations, 6 axis handling devices & conveyance devices.
• Document equipment requirements that verify & validate performance, with instructions for operation, maintenance & repair.
• Improve standards for assembly by working with engineering professionals to promote defect-free processes.
• Interact cross functionally from concept through test runs through released manufacturing process

JOB DESCRIPTION

GENERAL FUNCTION

• Knowledge of Cognex, PPT, DVT, or Fanuc Vision systems

Pay Range:109,230.00 -152,546.90
