Advanced Manufacturing Institute (AMI) at Kansas State University seeks a product design engineer to assist startups, entrepreneurs, and university researchers in the early stages of turning ideas into tangible electro‑mechanical products.
You will conduct technical feasibility studies, lead design planning and specifications, develop and select concepts, detail designs, prototype hands‑on, perform functional testing, and guide projects from ideation to launch with cross‑functional teams.
The Advanced Manufacturing Institute (AMI), at Kansas State University, is seeking a product design engineer to provide assistance to small companies, entrepreneurs, and university researchers that are in the early stages of developing new technologies and products.
Responsibilities for this position include: early stage development of new technologies and products that balance customer requirements, innovative design elements, functional performance, and manufacturability for a variety of industry sectors. Specific activities include: technical feasibility studies, product planning, specifications development, creation/selection of design concepts, detailing designs, hands-on prototyping, functional performance testing, and project implementation.
Qualifications include: bachelors degree in engineering with a design emphasis, and at least five years experience in new product development of electro-mechanical products. The successful candidate should possess mechanical aptitude to develop/refine prototypes; working knowledge of 3D modeling software; passion to learn new technologies; experience in technology-intensive projects from ideation to launch; proven project management skills and excellent customer relations skills. The candidate must also be able to work independently and within cross-functional teams and be capable of mentoring future engineering professionals.
