Job summary

laborup is seeking a Senior Product Design Engineer in the Birmingham, AL area. This hands-on role focuses on heavy‑duty equipment and fabricated products for industrial environments.

You will own projects from concept to production release, delivering 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings for fabrication and assembly. The ideal candidate has 5+ years in mechanical design within manufacturing, with strong CAD skills (Inventor/AutoCAD) and a solid understanding of manufacturing processes

Qualifications

• 5+ years of mechanical design or product engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Strong experience designing mechanical equipment, machinery, or manufactured products.
• Proficiency with 3D CAD and 2D drafting software; Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD experience is preferred.
• Strong understanding of manufacturing and fabrication processes.
• Working knowledge of GD&T, tolerance stack-ups, engineering drawings, and design for manufacturability.
• Experience taking designs from concept through manufacturing/production.
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; equivalent education/experience considered.
• Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
• Ability to work directly with manufacturing, customers, and other engineering disciplines.

The Senior Product Design Engineer will own projects from initial concept and customer requirements through detailed design, manufacturing drawings, engineering changes, and production release. This is an experienced‑level position for an engineer who understands not only how to design a product, but also how it will be fabricated, welded, machined, assembled, and used in the field.
