Overview

We are seeking a senior Data Product Owner to own one or more key data domains within the end client's data platform team, supporting capital formation, analytics, and reporting.

This role combines business analysis, hands-on data analysis, and product ownership. You will partner directly with business stakeholders to understand their needs, translate them into actionable requirements, and own delivery from discovery through validation and adoption. You must be comfortable independently investigating data, assessing quality, and validating outputs.

The role sits within an approximately 150-person capital formation and product engineering organization spanning sales enablement, digital, and data. You will report directly to Vinay Jain and work closely with business, data, and engineering stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own the end-to-end lifecycle of one or more data domains, including discovery, requirements, prioritization, delivery, data validation, and ongoing improvements.
  • Partner with stakeholders across capital formation and related business functions to understand workflows, reporting needs, and analytical use cases.
  • Translate business needs into clear data requirements, user stories, acceptance criteria, and prioritized backlogs.
  • Independently explore datasets, perform analysis, assess data quality, and validate reporting outputs against business requirements.
  • Investigate data issues and collaborate with engineering teams to resolve root causes and improve reliability.
  • Lead practical product ceremonies, including backlog refinement, planning, and delivery reviews.
  • Make informed prioritization decisions independently, balancing business value, data quality, and delivery needs.
  • Work with AI tools, including Claude, in day-to-day analysis and reporting workflows, and help advance AI-enabled data products.
  • Communicate progress, risks, trade-offs, and decisions clearly to business and technical stakeholders.
  • Drive execution through launch and adoption, ensuring delivered data products address real business needs.
Required Qualifications
  • Strong experience in data product ownership, business/data analysis, or data engineering with substantial business-facing responsibility.
  • Financial services experience is required, with an understanding of the data and workflows supporting the industry.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently analyze data, assess quality, investigate discrepancies, and validate outputs without relying on a developer for routine checks.
  • Experience delivering data products, analytical solutions, or reporting capabilities from requirements through implementation and adoption.
  • A strong product mindset, including the ability to prioritize work, define requirements, and coordinate delivery.
  • Practical experience using AI tools in professional workflows, with the ability to critically evaluate their outputs.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, including the ability to translate between business needs and technical requirements.
  • A self-directed, curious, and detail-oriented approach, with strong ownership and comfort operating in a fast-moving environment.
  • Ability to work onsite in New York 3–4 days per week.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in asset management, alternative investments, or capital formation.
  • Relevant experience supporting financial advisors, broker-dealers, or intermediary distribution channels.
  • Familiarity with Snowflake, the team’s primary data platform.
  • Exposure to Databricks, Jitterbit, or comparable data and integration tools.
  • Experience delivering AI-enabled data products, analytics, or reporting workflows.
What Success Looks Like

You bring the analytical depth of a hands-on data professional and the judgment of a product owner. You can move comfortably between stakeholder conversations and direct data investigation, identify what needs attention, and drive work forward independently.

The role is approximately 40–50% business-facing and 50–60% hands-on technical/data work. Software development is not the core responsibility, but technical independence is essential. The strongest candidates have a track record of shipping useful solutions, adapting quickly, and partnering effectively with senior leaders while taking full ownership of execution.
