Product Builder

Title: Product Builder

Department: Product

Location: Wichita, KS or Lenexa, KS (On-site, with 50%+ customer travel)

Type: Full-Time

Status: Direct Hire

Salary: $150K–$160K base + meaningful equity

Reports To: Chief Product Officer

Frontline workers keep the physical world running, and for decades their technology has been an afterthought. Our client’s technology is designed to improve how frontline teams communicate, collaborate, and operate in environments where traditional technology has often fallen short.

About This Role

Our client is looking for a hands-on Product Builder to work directly with customers, identify operational challenges, and build working software using AI-assisted development tools. This role combines customer engagement, product development, and technical execution.

You will spend significant time at customer locations, including manufacturing plants, construction sites, industrial facilities, and sports and entertainment venues, learning how their operations run and finding opportunities to improve them. You will turn those insights into functional prototypes, test them with customers, and work with engineering to bring successful products into production.

This position requires extensive travel (50%+), a high degree of independence, and full ownership of the product development process. When not traveling, you will work on-site with our client's team in Wichita or Lenexa, Kansas.

What Our Client Does

Our client develops a smart radio and supporting software platform, providing communication and connectivity for frontline workers in manufacturing plants, construction sites, industrial facilities, and sports and entertainment venues.

What You'll Do
  • Work directly with customers. Spend time at customer locations, including manufacturing plants, construction sites, industrial facilities, and sports and entertainment venues, to understand daily operations, identify challenges, and uncover opportunities for new products.
  • Develop functional prototypes using AI tools. Use AI-assisted development tools, including Claude Code and similar technologies, to rapidly build working software based on customer needs.
  • Deploy and test early-stage products. Introduce functional prototypes and early product versions directly to customers, gather feedback, and make improvements through hands-on testing in real-world environments.
  • Collaborate with engineering. Deliver functional prototypes that serve as the foundation for engineering to refine, scale, and prepare for production. The expectation is to provide working software rather than traditional requirements documentation alone.
  • Support customer engagement and sales efforts. Use your direct knowledge of customer operations and the products you've developed to demonstrate what you've built, communicate its value, and support conversations with customers, prospects, and the sales team.
  • Own the product development process. Take responsibility for the full process, from identifying customer problems and building initial prototypes to field testing, iteration, and engineering handoff.
Who Thrives Here

The ideal candidate has experience building products or businesses with a high degree of personal ownership. This could include founding a company, operating a small business, or leading product development initiatives within an organization.

Our client values individuals who have demonstrated the ability to identify problems, develop solutions, and take responsibility for delivering results.

  • Entrepreneurial experience and ownership. Experience building or operating a business, developing products, or independently managing initiatives from concept through execution.
  • Practical, hands-on experience. A track record of building, selling, troubleshooting, and delivering products in environments that require adaptability and resourcefulness. Practical experience and demonstrated results are valued over formal credentials alone.
  • Familiarity with industrial and frontline environments. Direct experience or meaningful exposure to manufacturing, construction, agriculture, mechanical trades, live events and venue operations, or similar industries. Candidates should be comfortable working in industrial and event settings and building relationships with frontline employees.
  • Proficiency with AI-assisted development tools. Demonstrated ability to use modern AI development tools to build functional software. A computer science degree is not required, but candidates must be capable of independently developing and delivering working products.
  • Strong customer engagement skills. Ability to communicate effectively with customers, understand operational challenges, and develop practical solutions.
What to Know
  • This is a highly independent, hands-on position that requires extensive travel and direct interaction with customers.
  • Work schedules will vary based on customer needs, and responsibilities extend throughout the product development process. Candidates should be comfortable managing competing priorities, making independent decisions, and taking accountability for results.
  • When not traveling to customer locations, employees are expected to work from our client's Wichita or Lenexa office. This is not a remote position.

If you’ve built something of your own and have missed that feeling ever since, this might be exactly what you’re looking for.

What You Get
  • Significant ownership of product development initiatives and customer relationships.
  • Direct access to company founders and leadership.
  • The opportunity to develop and deploy products that are implemented directly into customer operations.
  • A fast-paced environment where products can move from concept to customer testing within weeks.
  • Competitive compensation based on experience ($150K–$160K base), plus meaningful equity opportunities.
Compensation:

$150,000-$160,000 per year
