Job summary

The Weather Channel is seeking a Live Programming Producer to deliver engaging content for our live TV network across Cable, OTT, and social platforms. You'll lead control room operations, script, and segment production from concept to air, collaborating with the assignment desk and field crews during weather events.

Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years newsroom experience required. Flexibility for non-traditional hours, strong writing and storytelling, and comfort distilling complex weather science

Responsibilities

  • Rundown creation and management with ENPS software.
  • Write scripts, select video and create engaging lower-thirds banners for air.
  • Distill complex weather information from multiple sources into digestible content.
  • Make decisions under pressure and convey urgent info to on-air talent and staff.
  • Produce live and taped segments from concept to completion.
  • Coordinate with assignment desk and field crews to ensure accurate weather content on air.
  • Identify, research and source video clips from current and archival sources as well as social media.

Position Summary:

The Live Programming Producer is responsible for presenting engaging, topical content for our live TV network. Experience with multiple content distribution platforms (Cable TV, OTT, YouTube) is preferred. The person in this role must be a capable control room leader, strong writer, and flexible in breaking news situations. Creative risk-taking, curiosity about the weather, and adaptability are all a plus.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Rundown creation and management with ENPS software
  • Write scripts, select video and create interesting and accurate lower-third banners for air
  • Distill complicated scientific information from multiple weather & climate sources into digestible, consumer-friendly content
  • Make decisions under pressure and convey urgent info to on-air talent and other behind-the-scenes staff
  • Produce live and taped segments from concept to completion
  • Coordinate with assignment desk & field crews to ensure the most accurate and interesting information and content makes it to air during weather events
  • Identify, research and source video clips from current and archival sources as well as social media platforms
Education, Experience, Certification Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting or related field.
  • Minimum of 5 year’s experience in the newsroom.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Experience using ENPS newsroom system a plus
  • Excellent collaborative skills and ability to work well on a team
  • Ability to enterprise story ideas and work on segments from conception to completion
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, high pressure environment without sacrificing accuracy and attention to detail while multi-tasking
  • Ability to react to spontaneous changes in editorial priorities
  • Must be available to work onsite and during non-traditional corporate hours to accommodate live broadcasts (early mornings, weekend mornings, evenings)
