Job summary

Albertsons Companies is seeking a Produce Department Manager to lead the daily operations of the Produce Department, ensuring top-quality freshness and presentation while driving sales through effective merchandising. You will supervise associates, implement planograms, manage inventory, and uphold food-safety standards in a fast-paced retail environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily Produce Department operations focusing on freshness, quality, and customer service.
  • Deliver knowledgeable, friendly service and ensure associates have strong product knowledge.
  • Execute merchandising programs, planograms, seasonal sets, and promotional displays.
  • Maintain fresh, clean, visually appealing produce displays at all times.
  • Manage product rotation, remove damaged items, and uphold freshness standards.
  • Order, receive, inspect, and store product following food safety guidelines.
  • Control shrink with inventory practices and waste-reduction strategies.
  • Build and manage labor schedules aligned with business needs.
  • Train and develop Produce associates while maintaining a positive team environment.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, safety, and company standards.

Main responsibilities:
  • Oversee daily operations of the Produce Department with a focus on freshness, quality, and customer service

  • Deliver knowledgeable, friendly service and ensure associates demonstrate strong product knowledge

  • Execute corporate merchandising programs, planograms, seasonal sets, and promotional displays

  • Maintain full, fresh, clean, and visually appealing produce displays at all times

  • Manage product rotation, remove damaged or unsellable items, and maintain freshness standards

  • Order, receive, inspect, and store product following food safety and rotation guidelines

  • Manage shrink through inventory controls, root‑cause identification, and waste‑reduction strategies

  • Build and manage labor schedules aligned with business needs

  • Train, coach, and develop produce associates while maintaining a positive team environment

  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, safety, and company operational standards

We are looking for candidates who possess the following:
Soft skills:
  • Strong customer‑service mindset with attention to freshness and detail

  • Effective leadership, communication, and coaching skills

  • Strong organization, prioritization, and problem‑solving abilities

  • Ability to lead in a fast‑paced, high‑volume environment

Competencies:
  • Produce merchandising and freshness execution

  • Inventory management, ordering, and shrink control

  • Labor planning, scheduling, and associate supervision

  • Food safety, sanitation, and compliance execution

Knowledge:
  • Produce handling, rotation, and freshness standards

  • Retail merchandising and promotional execution

  • Store systems and inventory tools

Abilities:
  • Ability to review sales, shrink, and inventory data to drive results

  • Ability to train and develop associates

  • Ability to lift, move, and stack product and work in coolers and refrigerated environments

Travel requirements: None
Other requirements: Flexible availability including weekends and holidays; reliable attendance; compliance with company policies, food safety standards, and the Code of Business Conduct
