Job summary

Ralphs in California is hiring a Produce Associate to create outstanding customer experiences by delivering friendly, efficient service, cutting and packing produce, stocking shelves, and helping maintain fresh, correctly refrigerated cases.

You will answer questions, suggest produce items, follow safety and food handling guidelines, and support store operations in a fast-paced environment. Training is provided, and opportunities for growth exist within the Kroger family.

Qualifications

• 18 years of age.

• Current food handlers permit (where applicable) once employed.

Responsibilities

• Create an environment that makes customers feel welcome by answering questions and suggesting produce items.
• Cut and package produce items and stock shelves.
• Inform customers of produce specials and promotions.
• Review products for quality and freshness and take necessary action.
• Maintain proper temperatures in cases and coolers and log temperatures.
• Follow safety programs and report unsafe conditions to management.

• Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions and recommending products sold within the department and throughout the store.
• Perform all duties to company standard in regards to cutting and packaging produce items, stocking, CAO and key retailing.
• Prepare fruit and vegetable platters/trays.
• Offer product samples.
• Inform customers of produce specials.
• Review/inspect products for quality and freshness and take appropriate action with those items.
• Recommend produce items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
• Regularly lift up to 30 pounds.
• Keep current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.
• Help to control expenses for the department.
• Maintain an awareness of inventory/stocking conditions; note any discrepancies in inventory.
• Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained.
• Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions and notify store management.
• Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notify appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.
• Report all safety risks, issues, customer or employee accidents and illegal activity, including: robbery, theft or fraud.
• Ability to work cooperatively in high paced and sometimes stressful environment.
• Ability to manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational and cooperative manner.
• Ability to act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
• Ability to follow directions and seek assistance when necessary to resolve customer and business issues.
• Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and/or older adults.
