Job summary

Vallarta Supermarkets in California is seeking a Produce Clerk to maintain fresh, well-displayed produce and assist customers with their needs. You will stock, trim, rotate, and keep displays organized while upholding Vallarta’s high food-safety standards.

You’ll work in a fast-paced, festive retail environment, collaborating with teammates to ensure exceptional customer experiences. The role requires reliability, flexibility for various shifts, and a willingness to learn store procedures.

Qualifications

• Basic English proficiency
• Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 25 lbs regularly.

Responsibilities

• Assist customers courteously and provide information.
• Stock, trim, rotate, and replenish produce items to ensure freshness.
• Load, transport, and organize produce merchandise from storage to the sales floor.
• Handle produce items carefully and report quality issues immediately.
• Follow safety, health, and sanitation standards and Vallarta’s policies.
• Clean displays and work areas; support team merchandising plans.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to help department goals.

About the Role

The Produce Clerk ensures produce displays and shelving are well stocked, clean, organized, and presentable. This role trims and rotates products tomaintainfreshness and quality,assistscustomers with their needs, and supports department operations,all while following Vallarta’shigh standardsof food safety and customer service.

WhatYou’llDo

• Customer Service: Smile, greet, and assist customers courteously.
• Merchandising: Stock, trim, rotate, and replenish produce items to ensure freshness and quality.
• Operations: Load, transport, and organize produce merchandise from coolers, storage, wet rack, and sales floor.
• Product Handling: Handle produce items carefully to prevent waste and damage; report poor quality immediately.
• Compliance & Safety: Follow company and health regulations; promote Vallarta’s Safety Program and report unsafe acts or conditions.
• Sanitation: Clean produce displays, equipment, and supplies; sweep and mop floors.
• Teamwork: Assist coworkers, support merchandising plans approved by management, and communicate with supervisors.
• Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned to support department goals.

Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk for long periods (6-8 hours/day).
• Frequently bend, squat, twist, kneel, and reach above/below shoulders.
• Frequent use of hands for simple and powergrasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
• Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally (e.g., potatoes, beans).
• Heaviest item carried: 50 lbs.; longest distance: 5 feet.
• Operate cars, trucks, forklifts, and other moving equipment safely.
• Work near equipment and machinery; may walk on uneven ground.
• Exposure to dust, gas, fumes, and noise.

• Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.
• Fast-paced retail produce setting with direct customer interaction.
• Exposure to perishable products, refrigerated coolers, and changing conditions.
• Collaborative, team-focused workplace.
• Must work flexible schedule: afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
