Job summary

Vallarta Supermarkets in Los Angeles is seeking a friendly Produce Clerk to keep displays stocked, clean, and presentable. You will trim and rotate produce to maintain freshness and quality, assist customers, and support department operations while upholding Vallarta’s high standards of food safety and service.

In a fast-paced retail setting you’ll merchandise, stock, and handle produce with care, report quality issues, and work with teammates to meet management plans.

Qualifications

• Ability to learn all types of produce.
• Ability to learn care and use of produce equipment and tools.
• Basic English language understanding.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, crowded environment.

• Must be able to transfer to other store locations within a reasonable commute.

• Fast-paced retail produce setting with direct customer interaction.
• Exposure to perishable products, refrigerated coolers, and changing conditions.

• Must work flexible schedule: afternoons, evenings, weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Compliance & Safety: Follow company and health regulations; promote Vallarta’s Safety Program and report unsafe acts or conditions.
• Sanitation: Clean produce displays, equipment, and supplies; sweep and mop floors.
• Teamwork: Assist coworkers, support merchandising plans approved by management, and communicate with supervisors.
• Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned to support department goals.

About the Role

The Produce Clerk ensures produce displays and shelving are well stocked, clean, organized, and presentable. This role trims and rotates products to maintain freshness and quality, assists customers with their needs, and supports department operations, all while following Vallarta’s high standardsof food safety and customer service.

What You’ll Do

Physical Requirements

• Stand and walk forlong periods(6–8 hours/day).
• Frequently bend, squat, twist, kneel, and reach above/below shoulders.
• Frequent use of hands for simple andpowergrasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.
• Lift and carry up to 25 lbs.frequentlyand up to 50 lbs. occasionally (e.g., potatoes, beans).
• Heaviest item carried: 50 lbs.; longest distance: 5 feet.
• Operate cars, trucks, forklifts, and other moving equipment safely.
• Work near equipment and machinery; may walk on uneven ground.
• Exposure todust, gas, fumes, and noise.
