Vallarta Supermarkets is seeking a friendly Produce Clerk to ensure colorful, well-stocked displays and a clean, organized department. You’ll assist customers, rotate stock for freshness, and support store operations while upholding Vallarta’s safety and service standards.

In this fast-paced, festive environment you’ll learn produce care, operate display equipment safely, and collaborate with teammates to meet merchandising plans and customer needs.

About the Role

The Produce Clerk ensures produce displays and shelving are well stocked, clean, organized, and presentable. This role trims and rotates products to maintain freshness and quality, assists customers with their needs, and supports department operations, all while following Vallarta’s high standards of food safety and customer service.

What You’ll Do

Customer Service: Smile, greet, and assist customers courteously.

Merchandising: Stock, trim, rotate, and replenish produce items to ensure freshness and quality.

Operations: Load, transport, and organize produce merchandise from coolers, storage, wet rack, and sales floor.

Product Handling: Handle produce items carefully to prevent waste and damage; report poor quality immediately.

Compliance & Safety: Follow company and health regulations; promote Vallarta’s Safety Program and report unsafe acts or conditions.

Sanitation: Clean produce displays, equipment, and supplies; sweep and mop floors.

Teamwork: Assist coworkers, support merchandising plans approved by management, and communicate with supervisors.

Other Duties: Perform additional tasks as assigned to support department goals.

Physical Requirements

Stand and walk for long periods (6–8 hours/day).

Frequently bend, squat, twist, kneel, and reach above/below shoulders.

Frequent use of hands for simple and power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation.

Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently and up to 50 lbs. occasionally (e.g., potatoes, beans).

Heaviest item carried: 50 lbs.; longest distance: 5 feet.

Operate cars, trucks, forklifts, and other moving equipment safely.

Work near equipment and machinery; may walk on uneven ground.

Exposure to dust, gas, fumes, and noise.

What We’re Looking For

Ability to learn all types of produce.

Ability to learn care and use of produce equipment, machinery, and tools.

Basic understanding of English language.

Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, crowded environment.

Responsible, professional, and team-oriented attitude.

Must be able to transfer to other store locations within a reasonable commute.

Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Fast-paced retail produce setting with direct customer interaction.

Exposure to perishable products, refrigerated coolers, and changing conditions.

Collaborative, team-focused workplace.

Must work flexible schedule: afternoons, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
