Job Title: Produce Clerk

Department: Produce

FLSA: Non-Exempt

General Function: Provides prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service. Handles food safely and maintains a clean work environment. Reviews merchandise for freshness.

Reporting Relations: Reports to District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Perishables, Store Operations, and Health Wellness Home; Produce Department Manager; Assistant Produce Department Manager. No positions report to you.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides friendly customer service, engaging with customers and assisting them in the store.
• Greets customers with a smile and addresses them by name when possible.
• Assists customers with locating products, handling out-of-reach items, and other shopping needs.
• Answers phone calls promptly and courteously.
• Works with team members to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Maintains sanitation and cleanliness standards.
• Reviews and ensures product freshness, replenishes stock, and rotates products.
• Removes trash timely and maintains personal hygiene and dress standards.
• Reports to work on time and as scheduled.

Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Orders products and supplies as needed.
• Prices products for customers.
• Delivers orders and assists in other store areas as required.
• Performs other duties and projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics:

• Ability to follow detailed instructions and deal with concrete variables.
• Basic math skills including addition and subtraction.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and demonstrated instructions, and request supplies as needed.

Education and Experience: Less than High School or equivalent; six months or less related work experience.

Physical Requirements: Ability to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and perform activities like climbing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, etc. Vision from less than 20 inches to over 20 feet, with or without correction.

Working Conditions: Exposure to temperature extremes, dampness, equipment hazards, electrical shock, and cleaning chemicals. Fast-paced environment.

Equipment Used: Knives, wrapping machine, cash register, pallet jack, garbage disposal, trash compactor, cardboard compactor, calculator.

Contacts: Daily contact with the public and customers.
